I thought it was Sandown, the 3DB billboard said Vic. and the width of the track suggested Sandown. But the trees threw me.

the picture is of the old pit straight between turn 1 and turn 2. The old pit straight used to go straight up to turn3/peters corner without the little flip flop corners that are there now. The corner was quite dangerous. I know of at ;least on driver killed at that corner and of another that ended up in the dam behind the fence.
I think that the drivers may have been Garth Wigston and Warren Cullen.
cheers
peter

Hi rodomo & piquet
It was Sandowns Hang Ten 400 and the race team was Wigstons Roadways
On Repco corner its was O Brien and Wigston the crash happened as they were trying to avoid the 2 Mazdas.
Wigstons car is the one in the air and was forced to stop at Torana corner and OBriens brought his car to a stop 30 yards past the pits.
The roadways team had just had there 5th and 6th placed cars stuffed

The VW beetle was Chris Heyer, it ran a 2.4 litre SCAT motor and was all but unbeatable for a long time....we used to live together at Ermington....he also raced Passet and Golf on circuits for Lennox Motors Parramatta...

There is also an old race circuit in Goulburn. When do you plan on having a forum cruise to Catalina Park Race track.

Thought this most the most appropriate place to add an old torana rally pic. This is Keith (bloke who is doing the paint and repairs on my torana) back in the 70s at one of the numerous south Australia rally events...love these old photos!

I use Irfanview Steve,

click here to download - https://www.google.c....67720277,d.dGI

To Resize after install with that, you click IMAGE ( at top of page ), scroll down to RESIZE IMAGE and put in 500 in the WIDTH pixels box ( this is the only one needed to do at this stage ), then click FILE ( at Top of page ), and scroll down to SAVE ( original folder ) and click All of the Ok's, job done.

makes a 600kB picture only 50kB's in size without taking away the picture quality, so making up to 20 pictures per post fit. Dave I
