The shifter retains the original holden tunnel opening using the Ford T5.

Yep I have a Commo T5 and a fair bit of tunnel mods were needed.

Ford T5 and a adaptor plate from CRS fit better apparantly.

But im happy i have no ford parts at all in my Torrie at least lol.

Cheers

It's the input shaft length is different. Holden v6 is longer.

i dont think they are rated any better (horsepower wise) than a celica box......but if its reco than go for it but modding the tunnel will be a hassel.

I'm always suprised to see the amount of tunnel modification needed to fit a T5.

Personally, I couldn't be bothered fitting one and if I was looking at a 5 speed upgrade I would more likely go the Celica option. Less hassel as Chamois hatch has already stated.

I was going to fit a T5 also. I spoke to CRS for a kit - $2,500, inc box. They reckon they use a early falcon box - XF. As it's supposed to be the strongest T5 factory fitted.
A mate has one in a HQ behind a 350, we measured it against a M21 & the shifter is 10cm's further back than the M21. You would need to cut into the double section of the tunnel.
I saw a T5 fitted to a LH with a S/charged VT 5lt & he can't fit a shifter boot as when changing gears the stick hits the console.
I would reckon a W58 would be heaps easier & the shifter fits through the std shifter posi.
I went the whole hog with a TKO 500. It won't have to come out again due to it not being strong enough!

JMHO.

Cheers.

A TKO is in another league. Much stronger box and although more expensive, in the end you get what you pay for. (I know it's an old adage but true!)

Geez! I'me getting ready to scrap the vn ss & was going to throw the T-5 into the slar. Now u guys are saying it wont just slot in!
I've posted this before & the conclusion was that it would fit WITHOUT any tunnel mods.
My underside is all nice & gloss black! I'me not stretching it now!
If the tunnel has to be stretched for the commondore T-5, why doesn't it for the XF T5? or does it?
SM mag suggest using the XF box. Is this just for the shifter location?

I haven't seen a T5 fitted to a Torana (LH-LX) that didn't require modification to the tunnel. I'd like to be proven wrong. Maybe it's just getting the correct type of T5?

Yeah, I've been pondering over putting a T5 into my lx 308 sedan. (wife ground reverse out of the aussie 4 speed trying to get it into reverse without the clutch!)

Same concerns, some people talk about having to move the shifter hole back, which is what I don't want to do.

Jeff from Dellows (gearbox place) was nearly 100% certain the ford T5 would fit in the original position. I've been meaning to measure the distance from the back of the block to the opening for the floor shifter to confirm with him.

I know what you're thinking though, why spend a couple of grand to find that it does'nt fit well, and you have to remove your centre console?

Best T5 that fits is the Mustang T5 but apparently very hard to get and expensive
We where told there isnt much tunnel work needed so see what happens Our T5 is XF
