Cool, thanks fella's. Thought I was going mad.

That makes sense, turn it 180deg for opposite direction. How simple?

From the air flow perspective, the LH had the adjustables, but as these could not
be closed off, required a manual flap to close off air.

LX had the one way type, which could be closed off, and hence no flap is required.
they save a bit production wise, and lose a lever and flap.

Both LH & LX air con set ups used vac. actuated flaps integrated in the system.

But the UC pic? The cowl is different I know, but didn't the UC have LX style
one way vents? Perhaps they were using up old stocks of vents? The UC pic
shows the manual flap. (or is that an optical illusion??)

Can a UC owner show us some centre vent pics please - non airconditioned.

Yella, is this a manual flap on your UC cowl?

Dunno what that is Leakey, but it is not a manual flap. From what I can see flap on both LX and UC becomes vacuum controlled, not manual, which was only on the LH.

My 77 LX hatch has the vents with the side to side adjustable vents. A heater box assy, which came from Welby's targa hatch, has the other style of vent. This heater box is stamped July '76. I beleive these would be correct as my car could've had anything fited in it's previous life.

Cheers.

^ I wouldn't have know it if mine had been removed, but that whole vent and the surrounding plastic slides out to the passenger side on LH & LX. Takes about 5 seconds to change it. They also removed them for the Aftermarket underdash A/C units.

My UC has the "spinner" type, no aricon

Same with me.
My vents spin around to close and open. They're held in by two screws at the top. If you undo them, they come out and then you can pull it out to reveal the heater box.

And I have a 79 UC SL Hatch

Takes about 5 seconds to change it.

So long as you dont have a console.
If you do, you need to undo it and move it back to make room for it to pass as you slide it sideways.

^ I'll add that to my list of reasons why not to have a console.
