It really kinda frOcks me off that the hdt L34 rally car has been denied its group C touring car history, as Harry said, he never built a fresh car for dirt rallies, they were always old touring cars.

Dave Thompson has just finished building a new Torana rally car.  Apparently he is debuting the new car at Rally of Tasmania in late July.

Brave putting the front spoiler on it!  Is your username a reference to the HDT support vans for the Repco trial Anthony?

The user name is a reference to the HDT support vans from the Repco.  I built a replica a couple of years back.

Ed Mulligan started the business "Opposite Lock" and the L34 featured regularly in magazine ads.

Ed Mulligans L34 being raced at Oran Park by Brian Callaghan. The interesting thing about this shot is that the '75 Bathurst winner is behind Brian Callaghan, and the '74 winner is behind him.

Another one has popped up. This is Graham Alexander. Other than the fact that he is obviously from Victoria I know nothing about him. Can anybody shed some light?

It can't be the same guy. His hair is too short.

The Steve Holmes book, Holden-a kiwi obsession, has a section and a few photos of the ex Rod Coppins L34. This one in rally form.

Did it give the name of the driver or a date and place of the rally?

Is the book worth tracking down? Any other rare Torana tid bits?

In one of the other photos it has Peter Meadows on the door and valvoline sponsorship. The book has stories on various Holden models interspersed with owner's tales.

The Chamois A9X with tan interior sold out of Perth features in the book also.

Not an L34, but I thought I might stick it here nonetheless.

A couple more pics have popped up.  The first is a nice clear shot of the Mulligan car in '75. The second is the HDT car during the 1976 Holden Dealers 500, and the third is probably a practice run somewhere, as Harry is in the passenger seat. Many thanks to Peter who finds these facebookland photos for me.

You wouldn’t want to be under full power and have any sort of rapid traction change! Old LSD bang-go would sound like its name.

They had Detroit lockers for LJ so could have used one. Still fragile gears and axles though. I guess Rallying they could have had special stuff made.

This isn't L34, but I thought it may as well go in this thread.

I'd reckon the rally HQ would have been long gone by then, but I've never seen a HJ in HDT colours.
