one of my bosses at work has a 500HP WRX with a six speed behind it, he spent the dollars on a sequential shifter for it and its a piece of crap! he hates it and was pulling it out last night to fit the H pattern back in.

theres not much point if your using a syncro box as you have to push the clutch in between changes, wont be much faster at changing gears. would be good if you where running a dog box and button clutch though!

Doubt it was a Renegate...they make Toploader/Muncie stuff.

I havnt driven one, but there was a falcon in town with one of these shifters. The owner said it was ok, but the throw was way to long, very hard to change (toploader) and it was to easy to forget which gear you are in.

Re the last one, i just told him to try riding a motorbike for a while, and that he would get the hang of it lol.

Cheers.

Drove a sports sedan with one fitted to a jerico 4 speed (top loader copy) with dog ring engagement. Bomber is spot on, the throw was awful long. Which is bad for a dog box, in a synchro would probably work out ok..... Can't see the advatage really......
Rory spend the $500 on good shocks.....

Cheers Greg..

Ive got Bilsteins??
I changed the pivot point on my LS2...surely that can be done to shorten the throw?

Bloke in town here fitted one of these to his hatch.

All was well until he was doing something inside the car, & accidently bumped the shifter.

Then stuffed around under the bonnet for a while.

Reached in to start the car, & it fired up. Straight into the back wall of the shed!

Not too much damage, but he now has a renegade shifter for sale with very little use.

Cant tell what gear they are in!

Like Bomber said...being ex bikes...knowing the gear is easy..look at the tacho...my new concern is it doesnt lock out reverse...so...as you say..it will try to go straight in on the down shift if you miss count.

They need to build a digital readout into these things.

They're too bloody expensive now without adding un-needed electronic bullshit.

Hi Rory

I had one in my LC hooked up to a M21. The shifter itself was fine and fairly quick to use, but I think it was a little too 'quick' for the M21, since I blew up synchros etc regularly.

I also had the usual problems with the rat trap etc, so I never got the best use out of the shifter.

But I can see that in a stronger box, it might work quite well...

As you know, I did quite a lot of track work with the car. For me the sequential pattern of the shifter worked well. Shifting became less of a focus and I could concentrate more on positioning the car into the corners etc.

If I had had a stronger box linked up to it, I could see that I would have liked it a lot!

Cheers

Mark

Yeah Mark it appears that you need to play with them to make sure they are adjusted right as well...most negatives are re this area. Also noted on the Clipsal telecast that their throw is about 4"/100mm as well.

seen the renegate shifters in action, another mechanic friend worked on a car fitted with it, lx 308, think it was a toploader from memory. i past him on the side of the road coz he couldnt get gears, then didnt no what gear he was in. its also a struggle to get reverse, everyone else in his workshp refused to drive the car, because it was too hard. you can get some very god hurst competition h pattern shifters that have short throws and have a good feel to them.

I spoke to a guy at the drags with on in an XD. I asked him "hey mate is that one of those renegate deals?" He was very impressed that i knew what it was and he reckons it was great. He reckons he did away with a C4 for it (we're talking a drag car here), which i thought was pretty cool.

As for knowing what gear your in, I ride a bike every day so i've got a pretty good idea. Most boxes have no syncro on first so it's pretty obvious where first is when going back through the gears and if not that then the ratio should give it away.

My renagate turned up today. First of all, what a butcher job to fit the thing!! I haven't tackled the linkages yet. The whole unit sits to the left of the original shifter hole. A spacer will get the stick itself in the right position.

Butchery aside, wow it's cool! The throw is fairly long, but I think it will work out spot on with the syncros, any quicker and it probably wont go in or cause damage anyway.

The only thing that hurts is that it my SS center console wont fit over it
I've got to try and find a way to make it fit.

Anyone got any tips for me?

I looked at it...the offset was a drama for a std hole..eventually went with the Hurst..same offset but I am using a bent gear lever to bring it back....The linkage setup put me off...and the sequential shift.

Hmm...interesting. Anyone know what the Rengate Shifter is priced at? Hurst Competition shifter for an M22 Muncie is about $500 on it's own without the installation kit! i might have a look into the Rengate.
