Can you define what you mean by idiot........Generaly i find, its best to watch for a few sessions, spot the idiots and make sure your not on the track with them. Most people are pretty good, you can usualy pick the idiots on the track.

Idiots at a Winton Fun day are those driving at 100%+ of their potential or their cars potential, or passing around corners or under brakes, they are the sort of people who will wipe you out without realising it... generaly P platers with high powered cars... But also those with limited track experience but they think are a bit good behind the wheel...Hope that explains it...
Thats some nice sideways action there Mick... at a Winton Fun Day however that would possibly get you a warning if the flag marshells saw you, all the more reason for us to try and lock in a Torana forum track day as opposed to just crashing a Winton Fun day.

Another option that may be worth considering, If it was mainly people from Melbourne attending, Calder Park has practice days every second wednesday, the cost is a bit higher ($170 from memory) but its about 30 mins from the city compared to Winton which is what? 2.5 hours ? You get to do as many laps as you want.

I've just spoken to Winton Raceway.
Option 1. Dedicated Track Day. We would need to front up with 60 Cars. Cost $100 - $200.
Cost to hire the entire circuit on a weekend day is $5,700 + $375 for a medical vechicle, that includes Public Liability Insuranace
Cost to hire the entire circuit on a week day is $4,200 + $375 for a medical vechicle, that includes Public Liability Insuranace.
Going by those figures to get it down to about $100 a head we would need to front up with 60 People on a weekend or 48 on a week day.
The weekend dates that are currently Available are:
Sat 2nd, Sun 3rd and Sun 22nd of June or Sat 19th of July.
The advantage of this event is we are in control of who attends. However we would need solid commitments, and I would suggest deposits to lock people in. We maybe forced to invite other clubs/forums to get numbers up.
Option 2. Practise Day Friday. Cost $120 - $170.
With the exception of Friday the 13th of June, All other Fridays in June and July are OPEN practise days, which means we can attend. The practise day costs $120 for the day, plus $50 for a AASA licence which is required to particiapate.
We cannot control numbers obviously for this style of event, also we will have to share it with bikes.
Option 3. Simply go to the Winton Fun Day on Saturday the 12th of July. Cost $30.
It will cost $30 for this event, Drivers are only to be driving to 80% of the car and drivers potential. No passing on corners etc. This is very much a simply doing laps excersice, but may be good for those who have never been on a racetrack before.
This thead will recieve a poll as soon asi can get a mod to edit it for me so please vote in it when it appears.
If a mod sees thes before i message them, can they please stick a poll in this thread with the following options please?
-Option 1. Dedicated Track Day. We need 60 Cars. Cost $100 - $200.
-Option 2. Practise Day Friday. Cost $120 - $170
-Option 3. Winton Fun Day on Saturday the 12th of July.Cost $30

I have never been to Calder, whats it like as a track compared to Winton?Another option that may be worth considering, If it was mainly people from Melbourne attending, Calder Park has practice days every second wednesday, the cost is a bit higher ($170 from memory) but its about 30 mins from the city compared to Winton which is what? 2.5 hours ? Closer would be better I admit it is a bit of a hike to Winton... maybe i don't find it that far since i have extended family up near Benalla so i have done that trip upteen times.
This is what i have grabbed from the Calder website...
The Calder Park National Circuit is available on a number of dates for open practice, usually every second Wednesday of the month. Open practice days give motoring enthusiasts the opportunity to test their vehicles under the supervision of a qualified safety officer. Calder Park provides an Ambulance and officer for all sessions, as safety is of paramount importance.
If you have no experience in circuit racing, we recommend a high performance driving course to be completed beforehand. Please note: These days are for practice ONLY. Sponsor rides are not permitted.
Gates Open:
8:00 am
Track Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Prices
Driver: $185
Additional Driver: $120
Helmet hire: $20
Race Suit hire: $30
Garage hire: $25
Requirements:
 Helmet
 Race suit
Current Racing License. AASA License available from office for $55. Valid for one year.
Even better would be to get in at Sandown, but i don't like our chances...

(Calder, i could hire a trailer for a day and have it back comfortably that night)
What are the chances of getting sandown? Do they run anything like this at all?

I don't see a reason to charge spectators, but we may need to if its too hard to get numbers...
BTW the Winton Fun day is no cost to spectators. Only if you get in the car it costs.
I assume the practise day might be a cost per person, and the Dedicated track day would be as we decided.
I will give Sandown Raceway a ring tomorrow seeing as they have already gone home....

I have never raced there either but from all accounts it is similar to Winton. Lots of turns and shorter straights compared to Sandown and P.I.I have never been to Calder, whats it like as a track compared to Winton?

I for one will not be paying $100 to watch inexperienced drivers trying to keep their cars on the road. I got paid to do that as a courier. July 12 is out for me, as it's my sons 15th birthday.Good question Chopper...

But we need to get numbers first or at least an idea of numbers before we can commit to booking the whole cirucit...
