If you want to find out some information on a certain car, the initial post should contain everything that you do know about the car...

What is so special about this car?

More than likely the pre production model, which was usually the cars shown in the brochures at the time. Some didn't even have a compliance plate because they were a pre production model, something like Micks HRT427. This is of course if it really is the car.

Sounds like a wanker pulling your leg mate.

Sorry. But there are a lot of them when it comes to toranas.

Ask him if you can see it, chances are he will go all shy and say "No, its to rare, dont want anyone knowing where it is". That means he doesnt actually have it lol.

Get used to Kickers mate, theres millions of them. As soon as you say the word Torana all the stories come out.

Cheers.

at a tafe i went to about 8 years ago, there was about 6 cars donated by holden,
all had no compliance plates, they were test cars/pre production cars, there was even a VK turbo, that was odd.

Was the VK turbo a Holden or Nissan engine ?

That would be a rare beast as 99% of Holden development mules get crushed and sent to Simsmetal.

I have seen at least a dozen LX hatchbacks built in 1975. Most are Papaya as this was a new colour and the hatch was the new model. Therefore the two only built is nonsense.

There was that holden promo advert with the guy from COP SHOP in it, Gill Tucker?

The colour of those cars were orange SS and purple SL, coincidence?

"Prototypes" sometimes do turn up. I recently came across a HX Sandman ute, complianced in 4/76. All of these really early cars if complianced will almost always be brochure cars and will be Elizabeth build (possibly not the case for LH/LX due to lone plant production). This particular example had a chassis number AHX00014A. It was a 202 4spd with it's engine in the HJ numbers, and to demonstrate how early it was HJ's were still being complianced in 6/76. It also had HJ trim numbers (19V for black, HX Sandmans all had 18V). It was on the 'fiche with a handful of other HX's built together, and could only be one car - the red ute on the HX Sandman brochure. Therefore it is quite probable that in 10 or 11th month 1975 there was at least one LX Hatch complianced. And on a related topic, a friend of mine had a yellow UC Sunbird Hatchback complianced 11/77 which I always thought was odd as I've seen 2/78 LX's, but it too may have been a brochure car.

My Hatch was a 1/76 and it had a LH Nose cone with round head lights. Some guy told me " oh its a early model it has the LH T.O.R.A.N.A lettering on the nose cone". Yes it is a early LX Hatch but i thought the point of releaseing a new model was to show HEY ITS A NEW MODEL... Not with an old model nose cone etc... I'm not saying my old hatch is "rare".... although if i did i probaby could of added afew grand to the price on ebay... My only explanation is it had a accident and was patched up with a old model nose cone...
