Sucks to hear about the ute mate, was a nice looking beast. Always loved the VU utes.
I reckon if you looked around a bit you could pick up a VX SS sedan with OTR, mafless tune and possibly a cam for around the 12-14k mark. Only problem is you may be looking at something with high kms but Im sure you could find one.

Good luck with it! But if you get a cheap 6, buy the ute back with the leftover payout, and put all the running gear in MRLXSS, I think that would be the way to go and your weekender will (finally) be faster than your daily!

i would get a ba xr6t, that will be my next car i buy prob next year or so, on injected liquid lpg best bang for buck car in the second hand market to date, cheap mods make huge power, 1-1.5k spent and you wil get 300+KW easy..... and you will easyly get one for under 14k and you might even have change!

If you buy a BA XR6T ute make sure you save enough for the new clutch and diff it will need
They fry clutches easily if loaded or towing
They are notorious for diff problems with that stupid Dana
9" conversion is the usual go ... about the same cost as fixing the dud LSD

Yeah Kev, that would be the smart thing to do... Some money might go towards a carport on the house so this will never happen again :(

Atleast keep an SS 50 badge! hahaha.

If you were closer, Id give you the front seats from my VT to throw in it (Ive got an SS interior to go in it)

Will the insurance pay out the loan +some? or are you stuck with a loan for no car?

Loan is only 7.7k so i'll have about 9k to play with in the end.

Just picked the car up from the panel beaters... I'm gonna miss it! Damn it goes hard!!!!

Put a six and a slushbox in it before you give it back.

Ignore Heath, and dont yell at me for this comment...

Get a VS with a six and auto for 2/5ths of frOck all and have heaps of money left over to play with stuff. There nice cars to drive. Mine owes me $800 and its got air con cruise control power steering abs irs elec windows tow bar velour interior etc etc bla bla bla...I hate the things but for bang for ya buck cant go wrong.

Cheers.

Matt, I had a black VU SS (not a fifty though) that I sold a few years ago... still miss it... so I feel your pain.

If you've got $9k to play with... you could go and get another small loan and easily pick up a very nice warmed over VY or maybe even early VZ SS ute for under $20k. Guess it depends what you want.

That's no good Matt, I will definitely choose to have salvage rights in future insurance policies I take out.
+1 for a liquid injected XR6T ! That would be an awesome car especially with a few mods, and be cheap to run.
