Minor stuff up in the ongoing engine change.

I fitted a blue 6 flywheel and a red 6 pressure plate where an all red motor clutch went before...now it jams on the top of the bell housing...it looks like I have to go buy a new blue clutch kit.

I know the red motor has a physically bigger clutch pressure plate but it fitted before.

does the blue motor clutch have a lower torque rating?

I would reckon the blue motor clutch would have a higher rating as it would have more torque. Are you fitting a 1 tonner clutch?

unfortunately its a little more than that...for a second I considered mounting it all in the lathe...but it looks like its about 1/4 inch to take off. Also thought of grinding out the bellhousing at the top where it touches...unfortunately the ramifications of such a move are pretty big.

I don't know if it is a 1 tonner clutch..it would help if I bought new parts once in a blue moon...I am originally from a farm (not the funny farm :tease: ) so I come from a long line of people who can make old things do what they were never meant to.

I will be pricing a blue motor clutch today...they are $150 on ebay

don't you hate working to deadlines.

Blue motor clutch kit was $210 but I had to get it...the car has to be out by tomorrow.

I mounted the new pressure plate in the lathe and machined it...I also put a course sanding disc on the 9 inch grinder and sanded a section of the inside of the bellhousing where it made contact...fitted it all together it still hit.

So I got the die drinder and finished of the pressure plate and sanded some more..assembled it and it still hit...so i wound 2 bolts into the harmonic balancer and turned it over under it chewed thru..took it apart again and sanded it and now it doesn't touch.

Quite simply I need a blue motor bell housing..they must be different.

I know it all seems dodgy but fact is it has to go so what ever it takes to get it going....nah dodgy would have been to chisel the bell housing and angle grind the clutch.

But at least it all turns now and I can put it together tomorrow. Ready to hit the frog and toad!!!!!! i am a bit over the train..good perve but thats all.

What g/box is it running? I reckon the prob lies in the flywheel? If its off a VK est it might be deeper to accomodate the flywheel pickup for the timing.
Any way if it chews through you clutch will run cooler
Your flywheel isn't cocked on its spigot?

I didn't see the 3 magnets on it...and it had blue overspray on it...it isn't a thick steel mass like red motor ones..the back is dished out..not machined..its cast that way.

Gear bag is m20 aussie 4 speed 6 cylinder box....flywheel runs true.

I guess there is a revised bell housing for blue motors or the blue flywheel runs a little further away from the back of the engine but the starter still engages it....

I just thought someone around here would have done this before.

I even had to remove the clutch inspection cover because it scored a line around it.

For those that are interested...no bad vibrations..I have had it pulling 5000 plus last night and no dramas other than the engine runs a bit hotter than i like..you get that with thin bores.

god it goes hard too! it is like a differnt car now.

Did you refit the "engine plate/sandwich plate" between the block and the bell housing?

Sure did...infact it probably would have been beneficial to fit 2 of them

Just to clarify my original post..it is not possible to fit what I deem to a red motor pressure plate to a blue motor flywheel..they won't bolt up.

This is weird considering other here have had no problems but it is nearly sorted...I just need to space my inspection plate and fit a longer clutch push rod (read coach bolt)
