Thanks OrangeLJ, the more I think about it I think it will be an Aussie 4 spd for me, the car will never get driven hard enough to risk any damage and I am trying to get as close as I can to an XU1 so I should keep the main components right

Well parts are gradually coming together, I just got a set of five Sprintmasters on their way and looking in to a few parts from members on the forum, they are absolutely a great help, I must remember to thank my mate for putting me on to this forum, it's the best thing since the stone wheel.
Whats the youthly term these days,, lovin it sick, or just sick,
well I will just say it's a great place to be when your not working on your car or having family time.
I have a loose time frame of being ready for the road by about christmas.

Today is the day,, I am starting to take the parts off the car ready to go for the blasting session, then I will put some more pics up, hopefully they will let me take some of it getting blasted, the roof is all welded up and it came out ok, a small amount of flippering to do before applying a thin layer of filler.
The roof has still kept good shape and it isn't as it appears with the reflection from the roof skylight, it makes it seem to have a big curve but it is just an illusion. Theres a bit more grinding to do on the welds but I'd had enough and just called it a day, a few other things un-related didn't go so well this day so I thought I would just finish it up there with the Torana. Big thanks to Limo for the roof cut for the job. It is even the same colour as the rest of the car under the undercoat, thats why im taking it to the blasters, its going for a granit blast, I'll let you know what I think, or cry to you all depending how it goes, fingers crossed.

Well its all sand blasted now and here are some photos, I have sprayed it with a black etch primer to protect it until the repairs have been completed, I will get some pictures of its blackness tomorrow, it was getting a bit late. I took it to Elizabeth Trackblast in S.A. it cost me $500 which I thought was great as they said 500 to 600 and final price was 500 when most would have said the higher of the quoted prices.

Ok after the sandblasting I covered it with a heavier than normal etch primer in black, just to keep the bare metal from rusting while it is in the shed and waiting to have the rusty bits repaired along with the dents.
Also you will see that I have got some sprintmasters for the car and couldn't wait to get them on there, I will take them off soon and put the old rims back on for the repair process and painting. I also paint stripped the grille and got some headlight surrounds for the car, I will paint the mesh in the grille black and the centre strip the yellow dolly that the car will be.
I will put a few pictures up here and the link to all the pictures I took after the sandblasting.

What sort of brand etch primer did you use

I used a Protec brand etch primer, to my surprise it comes in a few colours including black, black is the last colour I wanted on the car really as its going to be Yellow dolly but it does look great, I will be going back to bare metal once repairs are done and then re etch prime it lightly and the normal coats of primer and spray putty in most likely the grey colour. If theres a chip I don't really want black bursting through from the brilliant yellow.
The heavy etch primer is just to protect it from the moisture in the air while its in the shed going through the different stages of repair.

Well done, it looks like a very reasonable body.

Most old Holden's that I've seen sandblasted come back looking like swiss cheese

That's a huge shifter hole though!!! What gearbox did it have in it??

Sorry I have no idea what they were doing or thinking with this car, they cut the rear parcel shelf with a hammer and screwdriver i am sure, I have to get a section to replace that nasty section of the tunnel and Im putting in an Aussie 4 spd.
The guy I bought it from actually bought it to do up and then got another torana and finished that one and sold me this one, Im rapped with this one, nothing to hard and not alot of rust, I think the worst was the sunroof hole but thats done and came out pretty good, a little panel beating and grinding of the welds to come yet but its all good, and the flared guards were nasty but they are looking good now also.

There will be more coming on my project fairly soon I have been building a laundry and once I finish that it is full steam ahead on the torana, I have still been gathering parts for the torana while doing the Laundry and it looks like i have bought a motor, a reasonably warm 186 with some good parts in it, but I think I will be completely disasembling it just to be on the safe side and to make sure everything is up to scratch and hopfully limit any chances of problems from who knows doing the rebuild.

I've got that window sitting in my room aswell :D No rush though, it's not in the way. I'm free all weekend this weekend, give us a yell if you want to arrange a pick up. I can meet you in the city no worries.

Good to hear you've found an engine :D

Well I recently bought an engine complete that was supposadly reconditioned and only 30thou over and well when I took the head off it revealed pistons that are .060 so can anyone tell me how you get a 60 thou piston in a 30 thou bored engine,,, maybe he just lied, well I got a torana sump, straight cut gears, a 616 crane cam, high compression head, starter motor, alternator, chrome side plates and dipstick tube, all the bolts nuts and clips to get chromed, a steel crank, engine mount brackets, a nice fan and pulley to chrome, high flo oil pump, so I have covered my costs ok and also have now finally found a standard bore 186 block. so I feel I have gone the long way around about doing the motor but it is still called progress, some other parts have been finding their way in to the shed but I am still working on the laundry I am building and up to the stage where i am about to start tiling so it won't be long before my energy levels will be fully applied to the torana, I just can't wait,,,
Life is so busy with normal every day stuff and also some extra care issues, can anyone explain to me how my daughter in a wheelchair all the time can come home from school with a sprained ankle,, incredible,
Well it won't be long now and I will be able to start adding some more photos.

This is going to be a long project and on a budget, I have obtained an LC 2 door standard model and my aim is to gradually clone an XU1, its a budget XU1, Id buy a real one if I could afford it but for me I will be happy to have one thats eventually just a set of original plates short of the real thing.
I will make it look right and get a motor built to as close to xu1 specs that I can and get it on the road as soon as I can realisticly and add things like the triple carbs and bathurst tank later as they become available to the budget.
Apart from getting some media blasting done I will do all the body work and interior will be done through a friend and mechanical will be done with a friend helping apart from the engineering work to the head and block.
Now the budget is money I get from selling another vehicle so I am doing the most expensive parts of the job with that and see how we go. My time is limited on the project as I also have a disabled daughter that I spend a lot of time with and if you want to read her story it is at www.melissas.net its a must read for parents, well for anyone as the message is don't let doctors tell you that a siezure isn't a seizure or that it's not dangerous,, anyway back to the topic.
I am not sure how this will work but here is a link to my photobucket slideshow, If it doesn't work I will change it.
I would be interested to find some locals with the same interest, im in Adelaide.

Hey m8, I know where your coming from with your daughter- My partner of 17years came down with viral encephalitis (brain infection) 6 years ago, when the youngest was 4 weeks old, was looking after her and the kids full time for the last 6 years and am on the same path as you with the 2 door/ GTR build...
Keep up the good work m8... :)

The car looks great in black, I know your painting it yellow. just a comment. I've actually hurt my back recently and looks like it's pretty serious and I won't be able to work for 3 months.

3 months of Torana time I tell you, 3 months in between doctor's/physio and specialist appointments.

Keep up the great work on the Torana. Very interesting.

Yes there is a serious price to pay if the laundry isn't finished soon,, seriously only the grouting to go and activate the power points and its all go, just have to shake this flu, by the time school goes back I should be all go on the torana fingers crossed,,,

The gearbox is sitting on a bench (table) waiting for some cosmetic conditioning, everything is going to be painted plated new or reconditioned, nuts bolts brackets clips bars rods components, everything, nothing is to look old if its at all possible, yes the LC is a real classic with the older style tail lights and the metal grille and a bit of style in the dash, nothing against the LJ but we all naturally have preferences.

yes it does look really sexy in the shed black with its wheels on it, but not a good colour to maintain and impossible to keep scratch free, its not at all good to hear about your back, hope you have some mates that can give you a hand with a few things, try not to allow the torana therapy to become frustrating if there are things you cant do at the moment, turn it in to a BBQ thing or something to get some help but make sure you don't over do it, back problems are terrible sometimes the activity will do it good and sometimes not,,, Take it easy

I will take some pictures of parts I have collected and or had plated so far, even got all the vynal for the seats ready for the new covers to be made
