Hi,

Was just wondering if there any any cams available off the shelf to suit a turbo holden 6? I've looked through a few websites of some common manufacturers but couldn't really find anything except naturally aspirated stuff.

I was considering using a vk efi cam as they are meant to be a pretty good match for forced induction so i've heard but dont really want to take a risk with second hand stuff.

Any suggestions/advice etc would be good. If any more details are needed let me know.

Thanks in advance

Wade Cams 259a or 242a
Crow Cams 5651
These cams work really well in turbo holden 6s

I've actually got a new wade 259a here that was given to me many years back, I didn't even consider it because years ago I think I asked a similar question and I got told no.

Have you had experience with using this cam behind a holden 6?

Thanks

Speco-Thomas used to make them and I believe those same grinds are now available from Motor Improvements in Melbourne.

Found the specs of the wade 259a.

Ex .267, 63-27, 199 duration @.050, 110 lobe sep
In .268, 25-64, 199 duration @.050, 110 lobe sep,

Might give Motor Improvements a shot.

Have you got the exhaust manifold made or is it still a planning thing....I still need to get mine made...and there was a minor blowup last time custom exhaust manifolds was discussed on here.

Ring Camtech and tell them what you are doing and they will grind you a cam to suit.

minor blowup?

What kind of intricacy were you looking at for the manifolds, my old boy might be able to do something for you if you need it, just give him a bell.

yeah it's made, it's just a log manifold. This is my first one, i'll be doing another for the next motor which will be better and hopefully go together a lot quicker the next time.

I'll be building two motors as I have a few bits lying around. The first will be the prototype to sort out any issues etc, second more serious :)

Out out interest coupe202 what sort of power where you making with the 259a and what where the specs of the motor etc. Also efi or carby?

nice time, gotta be happy with that.

I might make a few calls to see if I can find something better if not Ill throw the wade in.

I'm hoping for around 200rwkw initially.

They didnt tell me how the motor would behave, but I expect it to be rough down low and spin the turbos quick.
My car wont be on the road much but I'm hoping I can drive it on the street without to many problems.
Going by their other cams its in-between a stage 4 and 5.

114 lobe centres will still leave it quite nice at idle, maybe a tiny lope.

I experimented with a few cams years ago. For a good cam with EFI more duration in the exhaust and around 113-114 lobe centres. You gotta know where to put the opening and closing points.

I dont reveal my specs as took a bit of dosh working out what worked but I can grind you the same cam I got in my 500rwhp turbo tory.

Alot of cam companies really dont know what works with turbos. They will grind you something that they think will work.

I only do billets at about $268 plus $25 postage. I dont do regrinds, too much hassle with postage (my cam grinder is in the east, I am in WA) nothing wrong with a regrind for a 202.
The cam I do is 214 deg duration at 50 thou so its not a small cam. I use rhoads lifters and with these they idle nicely. With the solids just a bit more lopey.

turbotrana: Would I get away with using your cam with normal hydraulic lifters instead of the rhoads?

2ELCS: carby or efi? Second hand manifolds are usually available on ebay to suit a carby setup.
