Hi All
I'm finding it hard to source wide 13 inch tyre's ie. 225/60 for rear and 205/50 for front. In the days of my old torana Eagers were hot as well as Pirelli,
as i"ve been out of the car game a while (8 years) and only just bought a rusty SLR 6 to play with. Now needing tyre's so any help sourcing these would be Great.
Only realy want to deal with local tyre suppliers here in Adelaide

Not many makes left in 13's. Best to have a chat with a tyre shops in your area to see what they can get in for you. I run 205/60/R13 Sumitomo tyres on the sprintmaster mags on my LJ, but i heard they no longer make them now...

Yep thats right, you cant get anything new in 13" Radials bigger than a 205/60/13 now.
When I went to Canterbury tyres 8 months ago he had 3 brands listed of 205s but only had one in stock,
the Sumitomo 205/60/13 which I have found to be a good tyre luckily.
However they did manage to find me one new old stock yokohama g501 225/60/13 which unfortunately
sounds like a 4wd drive tyre at 80kmh and another 225/60/13 which was an eager carcuss retreaded but
while the carcuss was 225, the retread width was only about the same as a 205.
I have been looking for 225s since then too but no luck.
While Antique tyres now has 215 & 235s in 13s, they are only bias ply tyres and not radials apparently.

It's a bitch I don't want to go to a 14 inch or more but i looks like the old 13's are out the windy and as for retreads it would never crossed my mind as I don't trust the walls on the tyre's someone else has driven around on.

I just did a ring around here too and found the Wholesaler that imports the Sumitomo 205 13s doesnt any more.
The other options where:

- Dominator SR4 I think (USA export brand) with white lettering on one side( dont know about the quality of these as I believe thay are made by Cooper tires which is having hard enough time keeping lawsuits at bay in the U.S.) bit over $100ea
http://www.tirekingd...idominator.aspx

-Hancook , dont know anymore ,bit over $100ea

-HERO brand , taiwan made, dont know anymore.

BRAD1979UC , have you got the Hancooks on your car? If so can you take picture of them, treat pattern and sidewall and post so we can see what they are like?
BTW , looking at your avatar, not the bald ones :)

If you are looking for anything larger than 205/60R13 I seriously doubt you will find anything.

I have had Egars (long since discontinued) and Sumitomos (just recently discontinued) now i have a set of Hancooks on the rear. You should be able to get them still.

Personaly i though the Sumitomo was a great tyres, better than the Egars even, however they don't make them anymore.

Good luck with it mate, and keep us posted. I can see myself returning to Stockies or going up to Volvos, if number of options for wide 13s continues to dry up.

I would say more than 2 years shelf life but as long as your not still using them 6 years after manufacturer.

Check this thread http://www.gmh-toran...showtopic=29353

As mentioned earlier Antique tyre does have 215 & 235- 60-13s but AFAIK they are a BIAS ply tyre, not a RADIAL ply.
BIAS ply tyres, flex and distort more under pressure of acceleration & cornering compared to newer Radial designed tyres.
All of which results in a decreased road footprint, loss of rip & higher tread wear.

BIAS ply is old techonology and its great Antique tyres is sourcing these tyres for people wanting to restore there pre mid 70s vehicles to original period condition.

Hey mate, my friends dad owns a tyre place in wagga, Pats tyres and more and i saw he had four new yokohama's with the A pattern tread and white writing on the side in 13's, really fat too, looked like they would fi a seven or eight inch rim. they were new tryes and he said that they were still making them but they were rare as hens teeth. maybe give him a call on (02) 6921 1345

I called a local Tough Tyres place a few weeks ago, they said they could get 215-50-13s at around $200ea fitted+balanced from yokohama. While this was the widest and only profile available from Yokohoma the 215-50 was a smaller rolling diameter than the 205-60 I have. I would like to find 225-60s.

I know the experts will cringe, but I (and many others) have been running 235/50/13 on 6" sprintmasters rims for years.
