ok, just a thought. I converted a few lc coupes to lj in the early days as nobody wanted lc's, who knew?

sorry, didnt know you didnt have a complete front, hopefully I will, so may be doing it slightly different.

It's a bit of a different situation with LX's and UC's though :tease:

a uc to lx conversion is very much like "upgrading" from vista back to xp... back date to "upgrade" lol

Keep the updates and pictures coming Dave.

Very interesting.

I'm sure plenty of people would like to do the same thing to UC but don't have the time or skills.

Perhaps you should call it the LUX model hatchback - very rare! :D

Regards,

Mick.

id call it the DE - LUX model.. all the looks of the lx with the suspension upgrades of the uc..

dave what mechanic do you work for and what kind of retro fitting new gear into old do you do..
im in the adelaide area and will probably be wanting to put an efi 8 into my torana in the future and you seem like the guy to see..
and im getting a diff conversion done soon vs diff housing into an lx wondering if you's possibly do that sort of thing..

Thanks for answering the question on the difference between the UC and LX/LH guards. Will be interested in seeing the result. Did you get a proper TIG with frequency, or just the leads to modify an inverter welder? I got the later, works well.

if you look on the photos, of the inner guard, the black part is the lx part that has been grafted in. blurry photos sorry as theyve been scanned from snapshot photos. this has been done with the help of a local welder/sheetmetal guy. also the frontal area of the inner guard needs minor reworking. havent heard of just cutting the lx guard. this is not my car but a work in progress, its a hatchback. i guess in theory its great to have a uc torana that looks like an lx; you get rts. the owner bloke said the tailights were the easy bit. did it himself apart from welding. braces are tacked on to check bonnet gaps etc.

Good way of fixing the cosmetic mistakes that GMH made with the UC. Best of luck with it and keep posting progress shots.

Attached File  P1000366.JPG   821.73K   102 downloadsI am converting a UC hatch front\rear end and fitting a SLR dash and it is a big job. The good thing is the UC has nearly no rust! I have unpicked the welding on inner guards and gathered donor LX ones. I just picked up a LH yesterday to play with as well. Hi all. Good work so far on the LX conversion.

If you want to see another, well, weirder way of doing it, check out "fixing my brothers UC hatch" in the members projects section.

looking good mate
but nothing wrong with the uc
doing the same conversion for a mate four door
we just cut the tops off the uc inner guards and grafted the lh inners tops on with the guard in place
have to say worked well no propblems doing it this way
but as always there are always many ways to skin a cat
keep up the great work
go the two doors
