Heavy rain in melbourne saturday. Now my headlights only work when I hold down the highbeam switch on the floor (LC 4 door). Has anyone else had this happen to them before, some family friend told me it had happened to them a while back but dind't pay enough attention to curing the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Stuffed dipper switch. Dunno why or how, but one of our young guys had the same thing in his LJ, called the NRMA and he bipassed the dipper switch to get him home. He fitted new dipper switch, and presto.

I think rain and electrical problem is just a coincidence, but funny how they do sorta always occur at the same time!!! i.e. battery's dieing cause regulator is stuffed, needs to wait for rain for battery to die 100% leaving you stranded (that was pre-mobile phone days).

What's in the floor mounted dipper switches that would make em do this? Obviously more than just a dumb old switch.

just on the topic of headlights, has anyone put a narva kit in?
i had to get rid of the electrical socket housing and just get invidual wires to hook up to the globe connectors (if you get what i meant). question goes, are all three meant to be connected for low beam to work, or is my dipper switch stuffed as well?

Awesome, so now where to find a dipper switch for an LC

Yeah, I also find it quite a coincidence that everything electrical in my car goes on holidays when/after it rains ... grrr

Thanks Yella

No, only two are required. Your dipper switch could be at fault, prob could also be elsewhere.

1.The top/middle terminal(brown) is for low beam.
2.Terminal on right of the car is for high(green).
3.Terminal on left goes to the body(black)

You can get one from the wreckers, ebay or new at rare spares - take your old one with you so you can compare the pin configuration. My old LJ did it once too held in the dipper switch in most of the way home (it was an auto).

I'll have a poke around between classes tomorrow at some wreckers ... at the moment I've got a cabletie holding the button on as mines not an auto :)

Thanks for all your help as this has been a distressing last few weeks for the poor ol' rana, one thing going wrong after another.

Super-cheap also sell them for about $12, from memory. Might save you going to a wrecker, getting dirty, and still having a 2nd hand dipper switch.

new dip switches are available at repco. got myself one for 25bucks. from a wrecker theyre worth aroudn 10bucks. just remember to disconnect the neg battery terminal before unplugging the switch and taking it out like wise for the reverse procedure. if u do go to repco and they say they dont have one, tell em its for a hq cause apparently theyre the same and they do have those.

btw my didnt connect the low beam terminal, and also one of the connectors was loose. eitherway the low beams never came on until i changed the switch lol.

lmao, not until i block up whatevers letting fuel vapors to come into the cabin

not too far from blue slip, all it needs is a great deal of rust hiding and prevention (read. Bog). will fix it PROPERLY later but for now saving up money for a new radiator, passenger door, headlight surrounds, spoiler and professional rust repairs. the right tyre has been pumped and she now steers properly..ah not too long now......

If the tank is vented out under the car, the smell will be coming from the seal around the sender unit in the tank...mine does it too so I am putting in the alloy drop tank.
