Damned hard to measure them compressed, they push back hard as.
They also work upside down, not sure if it really matters, just the way they are

Hi all. Just curious on any updates to what struts are being used (good or bad) and if anyone has had the Monroe ML1214 ones in for a while. The end bracket on one of mine has broken. Cheers Ron

I got some ML1222 (equivalent) which are very similar in length/stroke to the ML1214 but hold more weight, works much better if you have a spoiler. Fit straight in and have been there for just over 5 years now and still good.

Thanks for that. Saw your earlier post about them but I don't have a spoiler so not sure I want to go that firm. Cheers Ron

76lxhatch I should have listened to you. Mine have just collapsed after about 12 months. I think they were the ML 1214 but will check when I get a chance to unhook them. Cheers Ron

Bugger, although I would agree with your original statement that they are a bit firm if you don't have a spoiler. Maybe just need to hunt down some better quality units? I still have a couple of pairs of originals and they would be OK if it wasn't for the extra weight of the spoiler.

I'm going to sus out Stabilus and see if they can repair my original ones as I see they sell replacement fittings. Cheers Ron

I think I've got the specs for the struts somewhere and could get a batch made up for them if people are struggling to get a cost-effective high quality replacement.
I do this a bit for some of the Jap cars I'm into. Price would be between $100-120 for a pair.

Hi Guy's,
I bought new struts from a guy that works out of his house in Adelaide.
They were specifically for the torana hatch and came with brackets and screws.
He charged me $99.oo

FWIW I just checked the new ones that have failed and they are Monroe ML1214 model. Here is a pic of the markings on the old ones. Not sure if they are original or not. Cheers Ron

Hi guys, For your info, I purchased replacement struts for my hatch about 10 years ago from "Australian Gas Springs" in Melbourne. Were in Noble Park but appear to have moved now. Web site is still active.
They were P/N GSK18-670/100N. Seem to work fine but they have not had many cycles in 10 years - car has been off the road for a lot of time. (I do not have a spoiler attached).
I think I just took the old OE part in and they picked most appropriate alternative. Cheers.
