Some more old Oran park pics.
2 nice Torana sports sedans. Bob leading the way in a sports sedan race and the demise of Skaifeys "Fraud Laser".
And I thought I would stick a pic in of some of my old cars.
SLR5000 with dealer fitted flares and SS 308 (cousins car) and as you can see I had a fettish for
MKII Carona's(put a 202 in one of them).
Also is probably one of the rarest Holden Ive owned HJ GTS Monaro 308 coupe, auto factory fitted with A/C, P/S, steel slide back roof, and Electric windows!!
I hope I have stalled your computers with these pics.
Cheers Louie

Loved wandering around the pits at night checking out the action.
Stood for hours watching Dick rebuild a motor.
Watched in awe of the TAFE guys rebuilding some impossible jobs.
And had my tent poles destroyed by the Channel 7 chopper.

Rockoz, you summed it up word for word they way I would of. (except I didnt have a problem with the chopper)
Those rotaries, what was wrong with those cars that they had to start working on them at 6am EVERY morning!!
I will try and find some of the pics i got of them "rebuilding/rebody" of Dick Johnsons XE ford after he destroyed
it in qualifying.

Was ARDC member for years. Got extra tickets in 83 cause mates aunty was driving one of them turbo jap things.
chopper was kinda funny and the TAFE guys even fixed my poles for me.
Beers and lunch in King George Tavern watching the race with no ads.
Actually helped a couple of the smaller teams a couple of times.
Remember the Police helping Barry Jones run in a new motor from Bathurst to Orange and back.
Mates aunt drove this, and by all accounts was a pretty good steerer
Oh and her hubby drove this one.
And of course George drove this one.
Took hundreds of photos but not many good ones. Will sort them scan them and post them.

I cannot remember the year, but one of the Jap guy driving the Bluebird was over 2 seconds quicker to the top (halfway)
of the mountain then KB was in the Camaro (got pole) during "Hardies Heros" but it blew the engine up going into the dipper-
Who knows what time he would of done- Nissan motorsport had about 10 engine spares, they put in a one lap screamer engine in it
just for pole. I also watched it from the Tavern.

Yup, Robbie Francevic, the Volvo driver.
Gawd, I thought I was the only one silly enough to race a laser. Broke 60s on the hill climb track, stock standard, other than higher than usual tyre pressures.

Bartlett got pole in 81? In the wet?
Did a Bluebird get pole in 82?
There were jokes that the motor was put in a trailer and sent still steaming straight to Bathurst Tip.
For those too young to know or remember, the TAFE apprentices worked their collective ringholes off with DJs car.
Pranged in Hardies Heroes in the morning. Attempts to straighten on pulling jig failed.
Bendigo Falcon bought and practised in Bendigo colours in afternoon by DJ. Spare STP? car bought as replacement for Bendigo guys.
Two complete sprays and sign writing done overnight, Dicks paint was still soft going on to grid and sign writer still applying signs.
On top of that was the usual 10 or so cars in for repairs.
TAFE guys generally slept during the race. Totally exhausted.

most of the night/morning watching the TAFE and DJR team work on that car,
I do have a pic of them working on it somewhere.
Also in the GroupA days the BMW Germany brought out a M3 for their all girl
driving team and they smashed it real bad in practice, the Germans said the car is a throw away (impossible to repair)
but that TAFE crew got that car repaired to the amazement of the Germans.
They just could not believe that the car could be repaired and after the race donated the car to the TAFE.

Anyone got pics of Gricey's Chickadee Commodore? I loved that fella's attitude of "sticking it to the big factory teams". Still remember the year he went hell for leather leading the first 10 laps of so at Bathurst in the VH? Commodore before cooking it!!!!
