take steering wheel off.get flat screwdriver and hit in the slit that holds the ignition barrel in and take it to a lock smith...or just get a new on.

only takes about 10secs to knock out.should be able to kick her in the guts then

That's sounds like a good idea I triad taking the steering wheel off it has a boss kit I unbolted it but it wouldn't budge

You need a puller to get the steerign wheel off.

We just used to use  plastic coated coat hangers to jump from B+ to coil + in the old days then use a pocket knife to short the starter  solenoid to B+ to get the starter going in the old days, can't do that now...coat hangers and pocket knives are deadly weapons...all these jumper leads and screwdrivers and stuff is way to technical for me :)

Is there any way to wire up a switch instead of key start and make like a button start ? I had that in a drift car once

I explained it above.

Dead set you need to be prepaired to actually go down to the shed and look at the car, think about what we have told you, and go from there.

Unless you want to pay for my flights there and back to spend half hour hooking it up for you?

Cheers.

THat color pick is probably the most help you will get.

If you want to make it a bit more permament you can put a toggle switch in the line going to the coil, this will become your ign on and off, and you can just run a wire from the positive battery terminal to the spade terminal on the starter solenoid, again with a toggle switch in line somewhere, this is your starter switch, flick it on to crank, off to stop cranking.

Sorry is this what you are referring to ?

Lol yeah go through and re read all posts again, then go to the shed, have a look, re read all posts again, have another look, its simple as.

Re your last question, well, were talking about engines with mechanical fuel pumps that just go with the engine, if your car has an electric fuel pump, then it may or may not go, you will need to try it to find out. If it doesnt, you will need to hotwire the electric pump as well, or just be smart and fit a mechanical fuel pump as there way better in most cases.

Toranas never had an electric pump stock, so its up to how it was wired in if you have one.

No. theres a million and six ways it can be done.

Thanks Phineas! ;)

If it's the same as the later models you can only depress that little tab if the barrel is turned from the "Lock" position to off, which you usually need the key for.

It's bloody hard to remove the barrel without the key, you normally end up destroying either the barrel itself or the alloy casing around it.

Best thing I can suggest is pay the extra $$ for a house call from a locksmith, as I said in the other thread, it won't pass rego inspection without working keys anyway.

Dunno mate  .mine must of been on off as a mechanic called in to drop off a huge out of ground pool we bought off him and

asked him while he was here how do you get the barrel out as i had no keys .

Given him a screw driver, hammer .gave it a big smack and out she come.first hit.was bugger all of a mark on casing

and new lock fitted well.

by the way he got it out he'd done it many many times.

Hmm, the big hammer approach eh, I think you'll find that would've damaged the old lock somewhat? Not that it mattered if you had a replacement.

If the lock is on the off position you normally just need to press the tab with very little pressure and pull the barrel out.

I should mention too that I've seen some unmolested 'coffee pots' where the slot isn't open, it still has a thin casting of alloy that you need to break through to press the little tab, normally doesn't even take a hammer to do that either, just a push of the screw driver.

Geez I reckon it'd be close to '95 since I last pulled one out myself! (I was just thinking before that I hope my memory isn't playing tricks on me)

At one stage I was doing some amateur locksmithing, I used to grab every Holden and Torana lock I saw (at the tip or where ever) and raid the tumblers out of them, built up a nice stock of spares and ended up rekeying all of my own and my mate's cars too (I don't think I've ever seen a Torana that didn't come with 3 or 4 different keys)!

Pretty easy once you've done a few, all the tumblers are colour-coded, dunno what ever happened to my collection, probably still kicking around in one of my sheds somewhere?

Pulled the steering colum off and just pushed it fowereds and used the push rod (push fowereds to start pull back to turn off)

I have no clutch tho i bleed the line it seemed good then I started it and it dropped to the floor so I tried to bleed it again and I can't get it back
