On a local auction site there are 2 LJ GTR's for sale (Bidding up to $10,000 now) the owner has listed these numbers below. Do they add up to genuine GTR's? What are the trim/paint combo's like?
Both cars have 2 tags each. (The cars sold new in NZ didn't have the 3rd ADR tag that you have in OZ.)
BLUE CAR - Chassis 8D11LDH29910J, Model LJ 82911, Body 29910B, Trim 1868 50X, Paint 567 15335, Spare 202 JL442114.
PURPLE CAR - Chassis 82911JL216328, Model LJ 82911, Body 1078-A, Trim 1842 40Y, Paint 567 13884
Cheers.

You dont know if this person is going to hand over money just because you think they look right.
And your books will telll you jack shit, other than its a GTR or XU1 (due to 82911 code). They wont tell you if the numbers line up, they wont tell you if its a modified tag, etc etc etc.
We arent playing with 2K cars anymore, these cars are starting to sell for some serious money, and for some people these amounts are not loose change.
Sorry if you are offended, but there is no other way to say what I feel I needed to say. And this applies to anyone, think before you comment, as your comments suggestions, opinion could end up costing someone.
Yes this could apply to me as well, but at least in my case I do have bona fide General Motors production information, a large Vin V's Chassis number data base and specific production line process differences used on XU1 and other General Motors products.
I do not rely on motoring magazine heresay which contradicts itself and each other, or good old pub rumour and legend. And as for Fiv's book, well dont start me on that one.

All 202 powered NON XU1 LJ's after a certain date (that for the life of me I cant remember at the moment) were fitted with JL blocks. So you cant go by just because it has a JL block it must be right theory either.

Wasn't it after Jan 73 the 202 was optional on all LJs?
My parts car (S Four door) has a JL, and I am pretty sure that hg350 has verified the numbers are matching.
