Don't know if this is any help, but, in my LH, K-Mart car park was a work out, now with the UC set up I wonder how I'm going to keep in shape

I'll check my parts manuals, but the only way to tell them apart is by the part number on the casing, unless you pulle it to bits andcounted the cogs to work out ratios.

You need to count the turns of the steering wheel (or input shaft if the rack is out of the car) from lock-to-lock
Each ratio will have a different number of turns. I don't know the ratios/turns for Torana's,
but as an example HK-T-G steering ratios are:
16.7:1 is 4 turns lock to lock
20:1 is 4.75 turns lock to lock

So you shouldn't need to pull them apart.

If anyone knows the ratios/turns lock-to-lock it maybe good for a "sticky post" in suspension.

Old thread I know, but my L34 is only 2.5 turns lock to lock!

Seams to be a very quick ratio? Could it be from the extra raised bump stops on the lower arms with L34 and A9X?

No. The bump stop blocks don't affect steering lock, and the L34s don't have the extra bit cast onto the steering arms like the A9X. It seems to have as tight a turning circle as any other Torana. It caught me out not long after I bought it in '95. I had been practicing lock to lock fishies in Toranas for years by then, so when I had a roo jump out in front of me I avoided it but over corrected by a mile and got a white post with the left rear door.  Fuggin' spewwwinnn mate!!!!!!

Here's what I've written down years ago about the racks ( not sure about the years )

1974 -1976     18:1   # 9932244       & I'm guessing the number is cast onto the rack

1976 - 1978   20.4:1  # 9932632

!978 - 1980     25:1    # 9940277

& someone correct me if this is not correct
