Hi there everyone, I was reading the "when is an A9X not an A9X" posts which is really interesting. When the talk turned to Brock and the 84 VK Bathurst machine it got me thinking about a photo that I have from my uncle who took it in England. Here's the "story"..... back in 1998 an uncle of mine took a trip to England and whilst staying at a B&B just out of London spotted a car that looked familiar. There in a shed at the B&B sat the car in the photo. My uncle got talking to the owner of the place in the shed whilst he was working on another car and he told him that the VK was bought over to England to run in the Thunder Sport touring car catagory under the Vauxhall banner. The car was raced by John Clelland so the story went. How this guy got the car, don't know. How it ended up in the Bathurst livery, don't know. Anyway the owner asked my uncle if he wanted a ride. This picture was from a club day out at Silverstone as you can see. The date is on the bottom right. My uncle said the car was good for about 3 laps before the brakes were stuffed. If the car is the one Peter Champion got a hold of.... then shit on me cause the B&B owner would have sold it to us from what my uncle said. Anyway it was a great day for my uncle, not likely to get a few laps in round Silverstone again!!!!

The car had obviously been repainted at some point because when John ran it it was in different colours

They are more adjustable, and don't break as easily if bumped on a wall :D

On the You tube video,Brocky says the Car was brought back from uk and refurbished,so maybe mirrors were changed ???????????????
You would think Brocky would know his VK 05 Dayglo car,Does Peter Champion know this Story on two different VK 05 Dore's,how can there be two different cars.

In the Stewart Wilson Holden Book
Monaro,Torana,Commodore Printed in 1990, the pics of Brocky 05 VK Dayglo car at 1984 Bathurst it has the Little Mirror on Driver side door and no mirror on Passenger side door, same as what peter champion has on it at the Brocky Museum so it has same mirror that it had at Bathurst 1984. And in the Goodwood You Tube Video thats the mirror Brocky has on the VK 05 Dayglo car,so how it not the same car if its running same mirror from 1984 Bathurst Race.???????????????

The Two Group C VK HDT Dayglo Cars
There Chassis Numbers are stamped
HDT COMM 6
HDT COMM 7
Brocky 05 Car is the HDT COMM 7 which is the Peter champion car
and i guess the other car HDT COMM 6 is the one at the bathurst museum

hi do you know where these numbers were stamped, as the rumour seems to be that the identies were switched (tags swapped I am guessing) and I understand that that is a big no no

Mirrors can be easily swapped,so that means nothing, there are other interesting things too.It has been reported that there is paperwork held by PC,BUT it has yet to be shown.

To date I have seen no conclusive evidence one way or the other. Some believe PC has 05, some believe the museum has 05. Mirrors prove nothing, as clearly they have been changed on the PC car to that which Brock ran.

They were the Chassis numbers on the Car,my Guess where VK Chassis Numbers are usually on the Cars,on Passenger side where the round strutt holes are.
I Guess who ever gets to see it with bonnet up at P.C Museum or on display somewhere will see if it is on there.

Mirrors prove nothing, however, think about this one once again.
Harvey ran with a VH mirror, you will note both cars were VK's, Brock ran the small mirror.
The car in the museum has a VK mirror, the car that was in England had a VH mirror.

Brocks car goes to the Bathurst museum, they remove the small mirror and fit a VK in line with Holdens wishes.
Harveys car goes first to WA then to England still with VH mirror fitted. The car returns to Australia and is sold to Peter Champion and the seller claims the car is in fact 05. A restoration is carried out and the small mirror fitted to the car. Pretty simple really. Brock saying it's 05 means about as much as me saying it's not really, funny how other members of the team at the time however all privately said it wasn't 05 though. Larry Perkins ran the team at the time, not Brock but you will find Larry's response will be "no comment", I wonder why....

One thing else that should be considered, the car in Bathurst was donated by Holden, but without an engine. It was later returned to HDT to have an engine fitted. Any reference to the engine in the car would have to be dismissed.

So, if you were looking at the museum car, what tell-tales would you be looking for?
