I was thinking today following a VE GTS..with 317KW/425HP...why not just get a reliable current Chev alloy engine and drop it into HDT 2?...It would be interesting to say the least..total reliability...under stressed...low ratio diff.... it would go like a farken rocket with 1200kg body??..Yes??

Dont do it, to me part of the apeal of your cars is what the look like if they were modified in a non period way then they just would be real.

certinly I think the idea is good and have been thinking if I ever get the chance to do another one that is how I would do it but not to a period car like yours, just my opinion, I am sure however what ever you do will be a top job

Do it, you know you want to,
Just dont open the bonnet when you take it places, let people wonder.
Every time I drive a VE HSV I wish I had a LS3 in the racecar for the same reasons you said.

Talking to a few people, all you need is a better sump , stronger pushrods and valve springs (for reliability) and you'll hose off most 355s that have had hours and hours and many $$$ spent on them.

Its funny you mention that Rory, I was thinking the same tonight!
A few mods and 500hp+ easy, should be reliable too.
If I ever put an 8 into the LX, it'll be a new generation engine.

Here is a link to an ebay sale with controller for electronics but Eagle Auto parts advertise them on the back of Street Machine

The lighter alloy engine will also improve handling and braking so numerous benefits.

Just with an exhaust and LS1 edit tune you should have far more hp at the wheels than what toranas raced with and maybe a much lighter flywheel will be all thats needed.

LS2 in early VE clubbies were pulling 225 to 230 rwKw with manual box.
By comparison VE SS with L98 was pulling about the same off the floor with manual. Auto cost about 10 on average.
Dont know if HSV are quoting more power with the LS3.
With just an exhaust, my VE SS pulled 260 rwKw. A mate with a Clubby was embarassed on more than one occassion.
We were looking at CAI and a tune and reckoned we would crack 300 unopened.
Unfortunately I no longer have the car.
It was great fun to drive especially with ESP in off.

LS9???

The LS9 is a 6.2 L (6,162 cc/376.0 cu in) supercharged engine, based on the LS3; the LS7 block was not used due to the higher cylinder pressures created by the supercharger requiring the thicker cylinder walls of the LS3. Cylinder dimensions are now 4.06 in (103.25 mm) bore with a 3.62 in (92 mm) stroke. It is equipped with an Eaton four-lobe Roots type supercharger. Power output is 638 hp (476 kW) at 6500 rpm and 604 lbft (819 Nm) of torque at 3800 rpm.

LS"X" means, the X gets substituted by 1,2,3,4,7,9 etc etc... The LS is the family of the motor... LS1 etc basically is the equivalent of L31, L32, L34 etc that is stamped on the tags.

Are you talking about the racing block one?

http://en.wikipedia....ki/GM_LS_engine

Commonly, LSX refers to what i said before.

Yeah I'm talking about the racing block one.

I think they are a full motor, like a CRATE motor or something. Heads with extra head bolts and shit. Designed for tuning, like bigger pockets for large diameter valve springs and stuff. Mainly for boosted applications I think? That is what the market is all about in america I believe.

I am sure with the right sump it would be a piece of piss...$4k...no worries...as stated the extra weight saving is the bonus..remeber Lotus' theory?..HP plus lighter weight and brakes?..No one will touch it....plus..what do you do?...Change oil and plugs every now and then...this needs some more thought......
