This one is interesting as well. Lets see if you can pick it..

Apparently the anomaly is a factory mistake.

The add says the "compliance plates never removed".

On a side note; This car took 5 months from build date to it's first warranted sale date.

It's had a similar time lag in a report on one of my SS cars but mine took 8 month to sell.

My other SS may have been a customer order as it only took 2 months from build to sale date.

They certainly weren't selling like hot-cakes back in the day.

On closer inspection they do look a little different to the 8 but sure don’t look like the B on my plate , would need to compare to a plate of similar date

So what happens if you change the T to a F in the VIN, like it's stamped, & then ask HHS for a report?

Yep, I'd be fairly sure those tags don't belong together, with CLX040536M the body number should be up around 577xxxM

I would've thought 8D77TG J551169X should be from a vehicle about 6 months older, around November '76?

Mine is J5575xxx and is Feb 77.

I've got a few hatches and sedans some  i have auto ones with the coupe A and i can tell you nearly all my tags vary on the positioning there really doesn't seem to be any set rule i even have one i noticed tonight as trying to get organised with my stuff and i noticed it has MR after the chassis number where all my hatches have only a M ON THE COMPLIANCE PLATE  any one seen that before

Does the R also appear after the M on the chassis number stamped into the panel on the RH chassis rail?

Surely they wouldn't have used R for repeat, like they have done with engine numbers before?

The first repeat is R, a second is R2 and so on.

I had only heard of it used with engine numbers, not chassis numbers.

Certainly the body number doesn't line up with the ADR plate date. Something else I noticed is the ADR plate looks a bit different, compared it to mine 7/76 and the stampings look very different,  the 31 and 34 are out on their own and the shape of the numbers is different. But the big thing i noticed is the ADRs  5B and 10B on that plate are stamped as 58 and 108, so the B is an 8, I imagine this would not be a factory error as the person typing these out has done thousands and knows its a B but if given to someone to reproduce who isn't familiar with the numbers  it could be stamped as an 8 instead of a B. But who knows maybe the person on the typewriter that day was a fill in

theres nothing wrong with the 31 34 out on there own i have tags the same the 8 is actually a B IF U LOOK REAL CLOSE ,but the compliance plate does not match the option tag or the vin they match but the don't match the compliance plate hope they didn't pay too much but hey 10 years ago it would be cheap whatever they paid .
