A couple of pics of the x-member.

About 1/2hr work & $25 in steel. If you are doing this, slide the angle sections 'outwards' & tighten the bolts before tacking. That way, when the metal shrinks in the welding process, the bolt holes align again. :)

A small amount needed removed from the cast brace on the box. Simply a small notch with the grinder.

Take 1 fresh set of Pacemakers, a high lift jack, a smashed finger & a whole bunch of swear words..... & end up with this...

It's a stock VN pump. The waterpump pulley just scrubbs. Nothing a minute with the flap disc wont fix.

I don't think i'm going to end up using the Gilmer. Not because i don't want to, but because i might not need to :)

For the first time since conception, ( & a trap for young players. lol) , i'm thinking about deviating from the original concept. Ironic that i'm usually the voice saying ' make a plan & stick to it'!

The pipes are going to need some manual bending to make them right. I figure if the finish is going to be marked, i may as well make them fit right, then get them HPC coated.

when i fitted mine to a hx ute many moons ago

I smashed 2 spark plugs..had a fight with the ex misses cause she brought the wrong ones(186 not holden v8),
couldn't get the auto colum selector rod to clear
,scrached and marked the paint to the point i shoundn't have wasted my $$$
,countless scrapes/skinned knucles/swear words shouted
and the rear exhaust/mufflers fell off on the trip home....and i had the use of a hoist to do all this after work hours on a saturday
lucky it had a frdge full of beers at the time :)
oh the things we do when we are young dumb and....

The Gilmer has to come off Dj. I can't use it now.

I just sat the airpump on there to check for clearance. More modification required! :banghead:

Thank god, i do so hate those things, on anything thats not supercharged.....Your supercharger doesnt count though lol.

Those pacemakers are a pig fit, makes you wonder if they used a torana
That had a front end collision as their trial fitting unit,becuase ive never heard of a set of pipes that just drop in with no hassles execpt custom made headers.

Lookin good tho, cant wait to see some engine output figures

I'm a big fan of Pacemakers. This is the only set i have ever had that didn't fit out of the box. They aren't that far out, & i can use an oxy. lol

Bloody fuel injectors have been doing my head in. It's been one big comedy of errors. Hopefully sorted now though.

I bought the fan set up from PWR as well. It's mounted on the inside.

No Scott, not Royal Plumb. It's just...... ummm.... purple. ;)

About to tackle the same conversion.
What engine mounts did you use, Torana or HQ?,
I can see you used a UC crossmember but I will be staying with the original cross member.
Have you fitted a distributer yet?

Torana mounts. I have been trying to use stock parts so anyone wanting to do similar can copy it.

Once the 'bunch of bananas' has been removed the distrubutor can be 'found' again. The kit comes with a new intake manifold which gives much better access to the dizzy. I am guessing at this point, but if i need to access/remove the dizzy, then i will need to remove the intake pipe first.

I'm waiting on the remodified fan box coming back from the paintshop so i can fit the intake.

I will be running a carb setup but with Torana mounts I should be ok with distributer clearence.
Did you have any issues with the headers and the cable setup on the bellhousing.
Looks like your brake booster cleared the VN covers.
Any other tips would be helpful.

You have to modify the heater box to get clearance on the 304 tappet covers.

I haven't fitted the clutch cable as yet, but i don't forsee any clearance issues.

Unusual you had to modify your heaterbox to clear the rocker cover, my orange LH with VN headed 5.0ltr didn't need it, both my EFI 5.0ltr LHs needed modification to clear the fuel rail though.
