Well done with the 13.2:spoton:. What revs are you pulling through the traps? Commiserations on the motor, but it's all part of the learning curve.

well its back together, bought a motor that dad built 15 years ago and put it in the hole.
went to the nostalgia drags and got 1st place in the Vintage Gas class.

Posted Image
weeee.

because of the heavy flywheel and crank yada yada it has the momentum to pull them up but not the power to carry them.
with the new motor it went 13.39 @ 101 so not bad for an old dunga.
head is off atm getting some more portwork and a shave.

sure will mate.
ive finished porting the head and im giving it to my engine builder mate to add finishing touches and flow it.
im hoping for near the 340hp flow potential like the head on the fj. probably a bit less because of the valves.
new aim is to run a 12 sec quarter Posted Image

Wish my Commodore would get some traction and lift the front wheels like that, instead of all the wheelspin I get. Still, can't complain, I've had fun at Heathcote the 2 times I've been and 13.4 for a car set up for circuit racing isn't too bad.

okay, went to a test and tune last night with the new head and cam in and got a pb of 12.80 @ 105.5 mph :buttrock:.
it was launching like a dog, had to much separation in the rear and the shocks were bottoming out and unloading it and it would crash back down. so i put heavier shocks in the back and clamped the rear of the spring and it goes 1.68 to the 60 instead of 1.78.
i did 10 runs in total trying to do a 12.79 but after running 3 12.80's i guess its not in it at this point :dontknow:
not sure how the weight compares to everyone else, but the car with a full tank and me in it weighs 2700 pounds.

Dont forget, mate, that its impossible to go fast and be consistent if you only have a 6 cylinder with a stickshift............:innocent:

Great work on your 12.8s, very consistent. 2700lbs is the same as my LJ with me in it.

Good one wot179

thanks guys.

its running with the weber's off the FJ with 40mm chokes and sounds heaps better wfo than the su's, but i do miss the lumpy idle of the su's.
i have changed nothing but the carbies so it will be interesting if there will be a difference, but i dont think that there will be as i doubt su's were too small.
i will be at the nostalgia drags with weekend.

ok well i ran it at nostalgia's with the webers with 40mm chokes and it went 12.84 @ 104, it would have been a bit over carbed but it seemed to do everything right.. Give me some su's anyday !

thanks Warren.

anyways because of an extended period of no racing for reason's im not going to talk about, ive been lightening it up, plastic windows and rear screen, fuel cell etc. car is also going on alcohol with the 2 in SU's.
anyways got a china radiator for a leyland mini, its only 270 x 250 core size so hopefully should be able to get it to operating temp easier than i see most people. the Radiator only weighs around 1.5kg's.
Also have a Davies craig pump to go with it.
Posted Image
Santa came late today, got all my fittings, fuel pump etc and fluid dampr Balancer, they're a very nice looking piece of fruit!
Posted Image
Posted Image
Balancer is a 6 5/8" diametre compared to the nearly 6 inch romac, i didnt want to go to big as im not too keen on snapping the snout of the crank off.
Had a bit of troubles finding somebody that stocked methanol needles but finally found some, they have to come from england.
with the plastic windows, cell and new cooling system i might lose just a tad over 100 pounds.

Cheers

thanks warren,
damper weighs 9 pounds so yes quite a bit heavier than a romac, my romac is 18 yrs old so yes it needs replacing.
Alky needles are UVN, i had to get them through this mob http://www.sucarb.co.uk/ because SU Midel didnt have any.
