Hi
Nice LJ, id only worry about getting rid of the VK 5 speed if your going to be hard on it. I used to have a 186 and VK 5 speed in my LX and it never let me down.
Have you got any engine pics?

I thrashed the balls of my VK calais with the borgy 5 speed, never missed a beat! (injected 202, with extractors and an exhaust was my daily)

Id say you will be fine.

Looks good mate, bet you cant wait to get it on the road.

Sweeet! Another Torana with P's! :D Looking good mate, also wish I was allowed to buy one at 14!
I wouldnt be too worried about the VK 5 speed aka M76, unless, like the fellas already said, you're big on burnouts. Ive got one in my LX behind a mild 202 and its been fine so far. Ive got 235 tyres on the back and have done a few hard burnouts with it. 2nd gear is a particular pain in the hole when its cold, but other than that, yeah she'll be alright. When it blows, you'll have some money saved to get yourself a W-series Supra box. :) Well, atleast, thats what I plan on doin. LOL
Cheers.

Took the LJ over the pits today and after about 6 attempts it has finally passed. Went for the first legal drive tonight and it felt so good. Few more little things to fix now that its licenced and it'll be ready for cruising. Will put some more recent pictures up asap

OK I finally have some more progress although it isn't anything too great. I bought a set of show wheels and today i finally got them on the car so I thought i'd share the pictures. Also I have a set of triple 1 3/4" SU's getting kitted ready to go on, more pictures when that happens.

Nice.

I'd cut just a little off that exhaust though. Just a couple of inches. Looks a little thin to be that 'droopy' maybe if it was a touch bigger...

I like those wheels too.

Oh, and the photo's in post #10 aren't showing up.

I couldn't agree more that it needs to be lower. Thats the next thing on the list. And I think the main thing that lets the car down (from a distance :D) is that exhaust tip, plus the muffler is stuffed anyway so as soon as funds allow i want to go dual tips like the xu1's had. And the reason the pictures are gone is because they looked so bad that I had to delete them haha. How hard is it to move the diff forward?

Thats a really mint LJ. Nice work. I agree with what some of the punters are saying; once its lowered a bit that'll just finish it off nicely.

It looks like the original car was a bargain. Was there much rust in it?

Also the VK five speed, is that the same gearbox fitted to the four cylinder Commodores? Does it have different ratio gearsets?

I reckon you could get it another inch or two lower without having to move the diff, have you rebushed the rear end at all?

The original car had a fair bit of rust but not in the window frames or boot so it wasn't to bad. It did get a new roof however because it was too far gone. In the process of building it it was in a rollover on the way back from a car show ( wrote off an xc falcon aswell all because of a poxy car trailer)so there is a few cracks in the paint etc but it's looking ok now.

The 5 speed is off a straiht six blue motor, not sure if they came out on 4 cyl aswell.

It should go down a bit without any problems with the diff but the only springs i can seem to find are king spring lows and they say they will only drop it 3 cm drop max where as i'd like about 5 -8cm so not sure what i'm going to do their, and no I haven't rebushed the rear end, would that help?

Thanks for all the positive comments
