Sorry atorana I only just saw your post. Unfortunately this guy wouldn't to anymore however there are plenty of furniture upholsterers that will do cashiers on car seats etc for a lot less than any auto trimmer. It would be worth dropping by a few and someone would be bound to discount for you.

Bit of an update. Car is coming along slowly. Changed my mind on wheels again and have sold the torq thrusts. Motor and box are in, brakes are done, diff is done and few other things. Not too much left to do.

Hi all, bit of a half update.

Nothing has really happened in the last 8 months as I lost the motivation for a while.

I'm curious at to what others do when they've had a break from the car but just can't get back into it.

There's nothing I want more than do than go cruising but it's just not happening.

Any tips on getting motivated would be appreciated

I'm new-ish to this Jason, but to get re-motivated I just have a look through the Members Build section - I see something I like and it gets me going to do likewise. That or search Torana on Youtube. :-)
I also stick "Get down to the Shed!" signs in conspicuous places, in my Outlook calendar, etc.

Go on, get down there!

Ok after another 4 or so months only a small amount of progress had been made.

Thankfully I've had some motivation as of recent times which is "get that car going or get it out of my garage".

It turns out mum and dad have finally had enough haha so it's all or nothing at the moment.

I still haven't sorted the steering but today the car has gone in to get the exhaust fitted up to the extractors and the tails haft is being made up at the same time.

Once the car is back home I'll finally be able to start it with the v8.

Then it's time to finally get the steering sorted and all the brakes hooked up.

Man I wish I could change the name of this thread A few years ago I thought it was great and now not so much.

I got the car back from the exhaust shop today. First thing I did was fit the tailshaft and pull of the f100 drum brakes so they can get a refresh and pulled my steering rack out as a ball joint is seized on that needs replacing.

Slowly getting there, it definitely needs a clean soon

Thanks guys, definitely getting happy!

And it's definitely good to finally be getting stuck into it again. The plan is to get everything sorted before end of winter and be driving it again. I plan to have everything engineered so that might take a bit longer but at least I'll be able to drive it minimally.

And then once everything is sorted I'm pretty sure it will get a respray in the same colour as the paint is less than average although it's not obvious from the photos.

So it's been two years and I haven't really made any progress.

My time and money have been invested into building and finishing my first home and the torrie has been on the back burner. It's only when I come on here that I'm reminded of how long it has been.

The only real progress I've had is fitting a repro xu1 tank. The car still hasn't had a wash and has basically become somewhere to put junk.

So it's time to pull my finger out and just get it done. I'm sick of paying rego for a car I don't drive. Fingers crossed this time I stick to the plan.

Nice car Jason,

Some years ago I saw a greyhound named El Jay Torana, any relation?

Good luck with the progress and well done on the house.

Cheers, Tom

Update time

The 253 had its first start up yesterday and I haven't stopped smiling since.

The steering should be sorted tomorrow, electrical and brakes in the next month or two as well as some other bits and pieces and then it could (fingers crossed) be time for the first drive with the v8.

Looks good mate...how was the 253 to fit? Ive heard a chev takes up less room in engine bay?

It wasn't too bad really. It's a bit tight at the rear but not terrible.

Hardest part was getting extractors to fit. Ended up having to get them modified a little .

I had a 307 chev for it but needed to use a 253 for engineering purposes as a 4.2 litre is the largest engine capacity allowed for the weight of my car

Won't be anything wrong with a 253, when you stroke it. You could build a good engine using mainly gmh parts, when you are bored. Gary

I've got some yella terra heads and will chuck in a cam and a stall and just enjoy it for the time being.

Then I may look at a 308 down the line

Been told the NCOP is only a guide

So if you get a Engineer that will push, you can have a 308 V8.

Nice to see a 4-Door LJ with a Aussie V8.

Don't worry about taking time. My last engine swap took me 10 months!
I found making a list and crossing things off very motivating. Just doing a little job or part there of was helpful.
If you set the engine far enough back it will clear standard steering.

Steering is almost sorted. Just need to cut the bar that goes between the unis and grind the valleys for the cotter pins.

I had two attempts today and couldn't work out why they kept changing. Didn't realise I hadn't bolted the steering column in properly.

Finally I've been looking at getting a new air cleaner and I think this beautiful example is going to be perfect

I think i would recess the shaft for the cotter pins on a milling machine myself mate. Yes i think a stall converter of say 2500 is good in a 253 to get it moving a bit, stop it being boggy down low. Gary.
