Pretty common in Sandman compared to other colours. Seen a lot of Premiers in it too.

That's interesting.  Don't recall seeing many sandmans that colour in Melbourne in the day, mainly yellow or orange but then again it was the mid 70's.  "Those were the days my friend".  Cheers Ron

I only have one in my folder, and it's not a 5000.

It seems to have been pretty popular in HJ, but probably would look nasty with those horrible HX-HZ stripes. The HJ Sandman van ID tags I have for my tag display are actually a Persian Sand XX7, L31, M21 van. I must have had those tags for 30 years, were off a very rusty piece of junk. From memory it was an XY5 (white stripes) not XX7 (black stripes).

I had no idea the white stripes were available. I would love to see one. Especially in Persian Sand.

If they were stock order they came as either XX7 or XY5 (colour dependant) for HQ or HJ with the box of stripes in the back or on the passenger seat for utes. Either the dealer fitted them or not if the customer didn’t want them. If you ordered a car you could specify what colour stripes you wanted, but an ordered car was rare, most were stock order. Not sure how the codes worked once the Sandman changed to XU3 late in 1975 and the new package was transferred the XX7 code. I have a feeling the XY5 was just used internally as I’ve never seen XY5 on an Acacia Ridge body plate.
1900 Persian Sand was standard with white stripes.

I thought there was a build thread on here with someone building an L31 Persian Sand car? Possibly about 5-6yrs ago?
