So last week i noticed i had a miss at full throtle when the revs got over 5000
its been awhile so i thought
time for a tune up
so
new plugs
new cap
new rotor
new points(x2 its twin point dizzy)
new links for the carbies(tipple webers)
so i spend most of saturday doing a tune up
everything is fine
its sunday now
drop the daughter at work
im off,
going for a cruise
engines smooth, responsive, revs out fine
im checking out the view as i drive along the coast
got some tunes playing( ive got a smile )
then
my head nearly hits the windscreen as the engine stops then restarts
( im thinkin fuel or electrics?)
wtf
ok its all right now
so 5 mins later it stops again
so i pull over check all the connections try again
and its all ok
this is when that horrinle feelimg sets in
so start the motor
it runs
then stops
then runs.then stops
ok so im going (sort off)
bang
tihs is where my muffler explodes and is now split from one end to the other
so now im stuck on a bridge
im trying to start the engine
and bugger me it starts but its running backwoods
hit the starter again
and its all ok
and im laffing except for the loud noise everything is fine
and i drive home
so now my car is in the shed iit idles fine but i got no mufler
bugger
when it all turns to poo

To blow the muffler like that, it's loosing ignition.
Muffler fills with fuel when spark disappears, then when spark comes back..............BANG!!!!

Mmm, try changing one thing at a time to find it. If you change everything all at once, you have no idea what may be causing the problem. Slowly, slowly.... I know, it aint very time efficient, but you get that.
Personally, I'd piss the points off (bit like women, trouble!!), then if you get something like that it will be the module playing up. I'd recheck you dizzy/points gap.
Have you checked your spark plug lead resistances? Just an idea.

New plug leads?
New coil?
I just had the coil pack on my Astra die a couple of weeks ago.
Ambient temperature was around 35 C. Combine that with the location of the coil pack (on top of the cylinder head, covered with a plastic shroud with no air flow!) and it started to break down due to the heat.

^ think you might be right, leads and/or coil. Is there anything stopping you running two coils, like the newer cars? Coil may just not be able to deliver sufficient punch.
