OK, Good to know that if you could not afford the extra expense of a coil and plugs to match,
that simply installing the dizzy would work.

However, I still think you would run into trouble sooner or later with a dodgy ballast wire or
faulty old wiring, underpowering a module that was designed for 12-14volts.
I'll go with recommending the full upgrade for reliability.

If you leave the original ballast wire in there, yes it will work, as the electronic module is designed to work in the extreme situations where only 6V might appear at the coil when starting with a near dead battery
Do also appreciate that the electronic dizzy will cause a higher current load on the resistor wire and hence actually reduce the voltage at the end of the resistor wire to lower than when operated with a set of points.
Part of using the hei coil and spark leads is being able to take advantage of setting a larger plug gap with will require the coil to maintain a higher spark voltage. At higher rpm the conventional coil will struggle, especially with the reduced voltage supply.

Still can't believe this ain't a sticky,
After receiving a PM today,
In regards to power supply, when running the correct coil make sure you have at least 11V plus at the + side of the coil both cranking and running.
Also you need a coil with a primary resistance between terminals + (15) and - (1) = 0.5 - 0.7 ohms at 25degC
and
secondary between terminal - (1) and HT coil lead connection (4) = 5 - 7 Kilohms to gain the best performance, less, especially on the primary will lead to a weak spark that you will never tune out.

Module test is for amps not ohms.

Install diizzy in engine and wire it all up.

Now place an amp meter in series with the (-) wiring connector on the ignition coil to terminal 16 on the module. Turn on the ignition but do not start the engine. Amp meter should read 0 (no current flow). If reading is not 0 (zero) turn off ignition immediately and replace the module.

He may well have been testing for ohms, however the Holden workshop manual gives the amps test to check the module.

I assume the amps test is a more accurate indicator of the control modules condition.

silly guestion s pack, on my module the a green wire connects the terminal numbered 16 goes to the negative side of the coil...
I tested for amps like you said & it showed zero...
Turned it over to check for spark, stil nothing

I usually get them from the local autoelec or scorcher ignitions who are local to me. Im sure ebay would be cheaper.
