I am always mroe than interested to hear stories from guys who raced these tracks, enjoyed the times that i'm too young to remeber.

Ive heard hundreds of stories from castlereagh, Surfers and the original Eastern Creek drag strip from my enging builder and it never ceases to crack me up!

Eg: The local police seargeant coming to every race event and struggling with my engine builder and his race team owner ( at the time) over a bottle of "Coke" ( with a dash of course).... and the police officer winning so often that he had to be driven home... in the marked police car.... by my Engine builder.... LOL.... Ahhh those were the days!!

If anyone's got any more pearler's they would like to share i'm sure everyone could benefit from their stories :)

Cheers!

Never got to race my Morris Minor with 1500 motor and Holden diff but I sure went to a few races at Oran Park and Warwick Farm.

I drove a Mini 850 hotted up and it was tuned by Phil Barnes who raced a Purple Cooper S quaintly called in those days of circa 1966-67 "The Purple People Eater".

One day when I was in Sydney at Palm Beach ( Home & Away beach), the clutch spilled its guts so I called Phil to come and pick it up on his race trailer.

Phil said " You know, your car looked really great up there on the race trailer being red with widies on but the giveaway was the surfboard racks"

I have many memories of Oran Park with the likes of the Geoghan brothers, Colin Bond, stormin' Norm Beechey, Barry Sharpe (V8 Jag), Phil of course and was even there at the start of Peter Brock's career in the A30.

Unfortunately I was there when a fella in an open wheeler cart-wheeled over the back tyre of a competitor and somehow he came out of his car mid-air and the car came down on top of his head. Needless to say it was a sad day.

Warwick Farm was OK and I positioned myself in a tree near the corner at the end of the back straight. That was a fairly hectic part of the track as they were coming into the corner at a rate of knots and it usually got a bit squeazy.

If you were at BP Energol Corner (start of the main straight) or at the part of Warwick Farm as just described and you heard some idiot blowing a bugle :tease:

That was probably me

I believed in having a good time in those days and I still do :spoton:

Regards ................. Barry
