There are quite few GTR's in indy orange.

There is a member of the Qld GTRXU1 club who has a nice original one

there is plenty of these ccars in this colour gettin around, i sold my brizzy built one to a fellars in wa i still have the numbers, but i will talk to the new owner first, it was a very rare car as the adr tag was stamped hg torana, not lc torana.

i think rrsocks has one aswell
than never made them in the xu1, thay only made the lc xu1 in 9 colour 4 in 1970 then thay added 5 more in 71.

i hope this helps.
cheers gong

Hi John

Welcome back.

Re colours; as you know I keep quite a lot of statistics. While my stats agree with most of what you are saying, they differ in some respects. I will post what my stats indicate if anyone is interested.

Cheers

I'd love to see what your stats say are the most common colours.

Could you also extend that into interior colour/type? Obviously the 40X interior will be the most popular, but it would be fascinating what proportion of cars went with other types.

And it is great to see you back John. Your knowledge on the LC GTR/XU1 models is second to none - and is based on first hand experience. Guys like you usually keep this info to yourselves, but not you. I've rarely seen someone in business or in my personal life so willing to help others. You certainly deserve the respect that you've been shown in this thread. Welcome back mate.

Hi all

I don't know whether Holden built cars to a prescribed ratio of colours or how it went- perhaps someone can enlighten me. In terms of 'best colour' or 'most common' colour, it could be argued that they are one and the same.

We have to recognise the amount of time that a particular colour was on offer other than as a custom colour.

This is what my stats show:

LC GTR - Indy Orange and Kashmir White 12% each - Verdoro Green Met 10.5%

LC XU-1 - Plumdinger 27% - Rally Red 17%. It is a fairly small statistical sample, but that's what the results are.

LJ GTR - Salamanca Red 10% - Chateau Mauve Met, Lime Green Met, Mustard and Glacier White 8% each.

LJ XU-1 - Lime Green Met 13% - Glacier White 11% -Chateau Mauve Met and The Lone Oranger 9% each.

Lime Green Met is the most often changed colour - there must have been a problem with the early metallic colours.

Cheers

bazza
are these off the records that you keep or are thay some info you have gotten over the net???, dont get me wrong but i would have no dobt in my mind that rally rad would beat the plumdinger hands down.

i alone have owned five rally red xu1s and know of another 16 floating,, but at the same time we are talking in todays times, the chato i would think would also win hand down, there is about 8 of them in nz alone.

it would be good to know for sure what is left of what colours, mabe we need to start a colour thread,, one for the lc and one for the lj xu1s and gtrs.

cheers gong,,, and thanks bazza for your info

Hi John

All of my stats have been collected from eBay, AMC, Shannons, car shows and details given by forum members etc etc. I don't record any colour against a car if the car has no tags or if the Paint Colour is not mentioned in the adverts. Statistics are reflective of the facts but not the "be all to end all". These are not numbers that somebody else has compiled, it is all fresh data. It would be good the have the details of the nearly 15000 GTRs and XU-1s, but that's not possible. All we have is statistics. If I knew what was to be important when I started my list - I would have also recorded Trim details and Engine Numbers but sadly, I didn't.

Cheers

As mentioned John, all these register threads will be the prelude to a database of the cars we know of.
The main dividing factor will be VIN, so anyone else's info (whether it includes colour or not) will be able to go in.
No identifiable info regarding specific locations or owners will be included (other than say, "sunburst's car" or somesuch) to protect owners privacy.

From GTR and XU-1 it will progress to L34/A9X and then probably to all other trim levels.

Grant..

Hi All,
My brother had a GTR in the late 70's and early 80's I think it was Indy orange, whatever is was it was a great colour.
It was purchased from a North ern Perth Wholesale car sales firm, and I helped with the purchase as I was working in Perth and my brother was in the south west.

I don't have any details of this car except that it was fitted with a 161 and Opel box originally.

This car was traded in at a car yard in Vic Park car Perth WA in the 1980s, Hope it is still around?

Mike
