Hi NYC 71,

I have 71 LC was originally auto, the cross member ends were "wrapped" in a rubber block insulator when I purchased the car. I believe they were factory fitment.

May still have them in the shed if you are chasing pictures, I didn't use them when I fitted the 4 speed,

Regards Simon

hHi Simon
yeah mate that would be great if you could get a picture, can't seem to find much about them or if anyone makes an aftermarket version
Cheers

Have a look here in judgelj's build thread, page 3, 17th post down.
You get a partial view of the rubber insulator and the metal retainer that encapsulates it and bolts up to the chassis rail.
Disregard the 10mm thick home made metal spacer that Jacob has installed between the insulator and the rail.

I've never seen them after market. I can get measurements for you of the steel brackets, the rubber, possibly make out of solid block.

Hi

Overall length of the bracket is 185mm
Overall width of the bracket is 45mm
Overall depth of the bracket is 30mm
Length where rubber insert sits is 110mm x 42mm

Between bolt holes is 145mm which should line up with threaded holes in the car

Hope that helps,

Regards Simon

Nathan, this is exactly what you need, 3 spacers for LC with Aussie M20 4spd. Same as the 3spd. There is no spacer between the crossmember and the rear mount

Only the Opel 4 spd had four spacers.

OK - I agree with Dave - did not say Opel up there.

So that makes Nathan's LC Correct, except remove one spacer from each side - Yay

OK - I agree with Dave - did not say Opel up there.

That's because that drawing/diagram was pre Aussie M20 release in LC Torana.

Just saw this old thread thaks to parap187, and  I am very surprised. My 71 LC S had a Opel box, it did not last long once the 2250 engine got the flick for a hot 186. I loved the gear ratio's though, especially winding it out to 160k's in third gear down Cosgrove Road Enfield many years ago (usually well after midnight on way home from a night out). But the business with the crossmember spacers has my interest. I remember those metal end spacers when I replaced the Opel with a M20 and I re-used them. That was over 30 years ago. Looking at S pack's photo above, I am confused as in earlier posts, it is stated that these end spacer blocks are only for the Opel's. So what should I have?  Does anyone know why the spacer was required for a Opel but not a M20?

Chris

For the Aussie M20 4spd you need the same spacers as the M15 3spd.

The M15 3spd is the crossmember depicted in the middle in this diagram.

Thanks S Pack. I am pretty sure I re-used that extra spacer under the engine mount. I wonder what ramifications it has/had? Gear shifters a little higher? I think I remember them too close to the hole.

Can anyone tell me if the 72 and 73 LJ cross members are interchangeable in regards to the same bolt spacing to the chassis rails? If the 73 cross member is wider front to back are the holes spread further apart also? Would a 72 cross member bolt straight up to a 73 car?

Yes, all the transmission support member mounting holes (7 bolt holes in each rail from memory) in the chassis rails remained the same from the 1st LC to the last LJ.

This is a spacer kit for an Opel gearbox. As far as I know, the Aussie used the two rectangular spacers on the crossmember as well (but not the big ones in the centre).attachicon.gif2976_1.jpg

Found this old thread

Anyone know the measurements of the big spacer ?

Always  had trouble  (since restoring) changing into  second up or down  with Opel in my LC GTR, seems to hit console

The spacer is missing so figure if I put one in should  change shaft angle  and change correctly
