Hi,
I have a 120 litre drop tank in my LX hatch, which is baffelled

It has an internal efi fuel pump which is located in a boxed off section in the front right hand corner. The boxed off section has some holes drilled at tank bottom level to let fuel in and out. Is this a swirl pot?

I get fuel starving problems when I get down to approx 20 litres mainly when going around right hand corners, as the fuel moves to the left.

What options do I have to fix this besides from keeping more fuel all the time?

I was thinking a surge tank?

Where could I mount one in a hatch as i have been told I cannot mount it in the hatch area as its in the same compartment as the driver/ passengers.
I was thinking in the engine bay behind the drivers side headlight?

Can I utilise the efi pump in the drop tank I already have and have it pumping to the surge tank? Or do I have to buy a low pressure lift pump and fit it to the drop tank + another inline efi pump for the outlet of the surge tank?

Thanks Ryan

What you have is basically a swirl pot which is the term typically used to describe a baffle system around a pickup.

The typical surge tank setup is a low pressure pump filling a surge tank and the EFI pump feeding from the surge tank.

You can use your EFI pump as a lift pump and fit another EFI pump. My setup uses a VN style EFI pump as a lift pump and a Bosch 044 as the EFI pump.

Litre8 and A9X have surge tanks in the engine bay. Personally I am not comfortable with fitting a surge tank in the engine bay or the front of the car.

You could build an L shape surge tank with an EFI pump mounted underneath and bolt it into your fuel tank similar to my welded in setup. You make also be able to build a pot that you current pump sits in and fill it with a lift pump.

Thanks for the reply andy, good to know that I can use the EFI as a lift pump. Now just have to work out the best way to go about the surge tank.
