I need to get access to the back of an LH SLR instrument cluster. The only thing I am stuck on is the the speedo cable, how does it come off the back of the cluster? I don't want to force it and cause it to break!

When unscrewed, can just get your hand around the back to squeeze the plactic fitting at the very top of the speedo cable. It should just unclip.Hi all

The clip mechanism is on the end of the cable where it touches the cluster. The end of the clip that your finger will find hangs out one side of the cable, doesn't go around the whole way. This little tag should be pushed against the sheath of the cable (yes, push it towards the centre of the cable). This will unclip it but not detatch it, you will need to jiggle it very lightly (in an axial movement, not sideways) for it to slip out of the back of the cluster.
Kinda annoying because you can't see shit and it's tricky to move around a lot up there.

any experience on how to reconnect?
I put it back and it seems to work on the driveway. haven't got onto open road yet.
but it seemed loose-ish.
totally blind and not much room to play with there squeezing in behind dash!

If it's working but the needle 'bounces' it needs to go in a poofteenth more.
I've found it easier to fit by pulling the centre out about 10mm & sliding it into the cluster first , then pushing the sleeve on.

Mine is hard to do too. As above, pull the inner out a tad and rotate it as you push the cluster/dash towards the cable. Itcan also help to have the cable unplugged from the gearbox if that is convenient to do. I think the female socket on the speedo is flogged out on mine. I put a dob of epoxy putty on the speedo entry hole and that does the trick, but it is a last resort.
