Tuxedo Black must have been introduced later on in 1975?

As a whole of exterior colour maybe, but use of Tuxedo Black started on 1st October 1973 for black outs on GTR & GTR XU1 models.
I think it would be reasonable to presume that it was also used for exterior body blackouts on all GMH models from that date on.

My SLR was built 10th month 1975 and is entirely Tuxedo Black.

A626 and A627 are the same as A628 colour wise. The only difference is the cars on the back. A626 is Holden and Gemini (they forgot Torana). A627 just adds Torana.

My second Torana had a build date of 8/77 and a paint code for Mandarin Red making it one of the last ones painted in that colour.

Interesting that the lion emblem stayed the same until the 1977 chart.

It will run later for scheduled cars. GMH traditionally changed the colour charts when a new Series was released and the continuing Series alongside it eventually changed to the new colours too. That September 1978 chart was for the new Holden Series (HZ) and Torana, Sunbird and Gemini would eventually follow. It would be similar to when HJ was released, remaining HQ paint would be sent to Dandenong to be used on LH Torana. Same would have happened with LX. You will find that once the new 9/77 colour chart was released you could no longer order a Torana or Sunbird in Mandarin but they would still be building them off the Schedule in Dandenong well past the start of HZ so no paint was wasted. Remember that Dandenong were not building HZ at the time, only assembling them using hard trimmed and painted Elizabeth panel van and cab-chassis bodies. Therefore, there was no need for HZ paint in the Dandenong Body Plant where Torana and Sunbird were painted. Dandenong painted the HZ guards, bonnet and nosecone but not in the BAP, they were done in another area prior to the HZ bodies entering the VAP.

 

The A626 and A627 colour charts are the opposite, A627 is a mistake correction as they forgot to add Torana to A626 even though A626 was released for LX Torana. They were issued for LX Torana, and HJ then eventually followed suit using the same colours. A628 was issued for HX with the same basic colours but the HX Series model range changed so had to have a new chart issued.

Holden had the same logo from 1969 until 1994, although the HG Holden badges still had the old style on them.

I thought the new style lion began in 1972-73.

 

HQ badges use the old style. The first new lions I saw were on some manuals printed around 1972-73. The first cars to use the new lion on their badges were LH Torana & then HJ Holden.

They would have been finished ready for HQ release, and they were continually available right up until the end of WB and beyond as they are referred to all the way through the 70's and 80's in other manuals.

Yes the HQ manuals were probably the first to feature the new loin logo. But the new loin didn't appear on car badges until 1974 (LH/HJ).

 

Sometimes I think that the various departments within GMH did not talk to each other.

 

You see a similar thing with the naming of the various models.

 

The new car sales brochures called station wagons "Station Sedans" up until HK. From HT onwards the brochures simply referred to them as "Wagons" right up to present day (well 2020 anyway).

 

However parts books & workshop manual still used the Station Sedan & then Station Wagon right into HQ HJ days.

I'd love to see what a loin logo looks like Terry! A leg of lamb in a circle I guess (I love it when a good typo actually works in a sentence, I'm always typing wrong but rarely does it make sense).

 

Terry is correct. Marketing did whatever they wanted to. They even changed colour names, for example the red HQ SS was called Bluey but marketing called it Infra Red. The purple was called Smokey but marketing called it Ultra Violet. If you read sales brochures you'd think that a 253 was optional in HT-HQ, it wasn't, it was standard on most V8 models (unless a bigger V8 was standard) and this is how it was presented throughout Engineering type literature - it was impossible to order a car and option it with a 253/4.2 until LH. There are other areas where I think sensibility has come into play. For example we all know that the Belmont name disappeared from Holden commercials at HJ introduction but continued in sedan and wagon until HZ release, yet the Belmont name is still used in some parts of GMH literature like in colour/trim combination charts and options lists. It will almost certainly be as it was economical to group HJ & HX Belmont sedan and wagon with Holden ute and van in the same lists and charts. So where it stands out is where there was a separate order procedure and order form for commericals, and in the accompanying procedure for the form there is a section for "Belmont" that shows the available colour/trim combinations and options.

What year was Sebring Orange released?... As I couldn't see it on those charts.

Sebring is a lot older, was introduced for HT GTS and changed to Indy Orange for HG.

Sebring was only available in 1969, and although it is shown on a Torana LC Torana colour chart, the 1969 Holden chart states that it is only available on Monaro GTS.

Bob Jane had 5 L34's painted Sebring as a special order.

As far as I can tell, GM didn't use Sebring until the 2019 Corvette.

He had other cars too. I know of a HQ Premier wagon in a CTV Sebring Orange, but it was also a driveline variation as it was L30 M41. I think he had LC and/or LJ's too in Sebring. I think his ZL1 was Hugger Orange.

 

O think A606 shows LC GTR in Sebring. It was replaced by Indy Orange with HG. The black and orange trims changed from Sebring to Indy as well during LC.
