G'day all,

I guy I know has a 5lt LX SS Torana with a build date of 1975. (You know the one Big T)

He's keen to know how many 5lt LX SS's were released prior to 1976?? Up until recently I wasn't aware of any...

Cheers,
Napes

I know of about 6 75 hatches of all types - most with floor dip switch and originally with square headlamps.

I had an 11/75 built L31 M40 SS. chasis no. was 000027M or 000037M (can't remember). It was factory Papaya with Sienna trim, round headlights and hihg beam dip switch on the column, factory a/c. I was the third owner and resprayed it Ultra blue in the mid nineties and 15x10 and 15x8 gold centred V5 Simmons, trim changed to black. Sold it in early 98 to a guy in Westrn suburbs of Melbourne. Wish I still had it.

Put it this way there were under 5000 LX hatches produced, so id say if less than a qauter of them were 5L SS you'd be almost there.

Considering the amount of commodores pumped out each year, you could almost call a hatch a "limited edition" :blink2:

I was under the impression that the LX wasn't released till 76, but there appears to be a couple pre-release 'LX L31 SS's' getting about with a manufacturing date of 1975... How many were pre-released prior to 1976, specifically 'LX SS L31's'???

I'm not deliberately being a pain in the arse, I'm just curious... :D

Cheers

The hatchback production would have taken prority as it was a new body.
Plenty of cars would have been built and complianced prior to the official release in March 1976.
Nothing astonishing about that.

I sent the ID recently to a collegue of that 12/75 Hatch on Ebay with chassis 85M. His comment was it was probably a showroom car for the selling dealer. The very early cars were built earlier in 1975, and volume production started in 11/75. All but 8 of the first 150+ LX's were 77 body style. All this comes off the original records.

Hi Guys,
Yes it is true they were around in 1975 as i also have one i am rebuilding at present. Genuine SS hatchback 12/75 compliance plate #64 build number. They are rare but are about as i came across another guy up north who also had one he was rebuilding.

A Early LX Hatch with Square Headlights? Being the NEW model of the time, why would Holden put out there New Showpony with old model headlights? Surely they would of fitted them all with the round?
