Does anyone know what battery fits a genuine XU-1 Battery holder and is capable of starting a high comp motor? Most batteries are either 135mm or 175mm wide. Battery holder is 155mm wide.

Hi

The original battery was 5 1/4 inch (135 mm) wide rated at 61 amp hours - I believe that equates to 366 cold cranking amps (cca) in modern terms. I use an Exide P310D it is only 310 cca but works fine. There are other brands that are similar. Be sure to get one with the terminals on the engine side and the negative to the front of the vehicle.

Cheers

Sorry to seal the thread but Has anyone got a good pic of a Lucas battery?I know the the xu1 tappet cover thread its has a pic of the strike me pink promo car.I'm in the process of duplicating the battery and have made the top caps in which I'm happy with but I'm trying to find out what the little black and yellow decal says in the center of it and plus a better photo.
Any help would be great.
cheers

Hi

No sorry, I don't know the other dimensions. I read it somewhere. Aldo has an original battery, maybe he can provide the dimensions.

Cheers

Spose at the end of the day we are governed by what is available today bearing in mind the battery I picked up today was very close to what Bazza quoted in withe.

Hi Mick
No there were ones I made up myself,I have seen the ones that Huddo has borrowed off Craig and there a fair bit different. The ones I made are abit shorter and was copying off the ones Huddo has on his car but rounded at the ends the same as the pic of the promo strike me pink xu1.
The ones that Huddo has borrowed may not fit the modern day battery and a copy may need to be modified.
Anyway talk to Huddo when he gets back I'm sure he will fill you in.
cheers Dane

Thanks Dane

yeah, I think that it's achievable (using the top of the lucas one with the botton to suit an existing battery) as long as we don't stray too far from the original size etc.
I will wait till Huddo gets back and check it out then..

cheers
Mick

Super cheap and battery world have xu1 battery's number N41 they still have caps on top of battery like the old exide battery number P310D. The new Exide battery 43C to suit your car is now maintance free with a glass viewing panel on top. Century also has a battery number 41 Std or H/Duty 51 this one I think is maintance free as well . A mate of mine purchase a battery from battery world and purchase 6 soft drinks with dark green lids after drinking them he put a small hole in the top of caps so the battery can vent then glued them onto the N41 battery caps and a green GMH sticker on the side it made the battery look like they did back in the 1970's hope info helps.
