Na, that means the exhaust is hanging to low. When you pull the bump stops out and where the bump stop used to sit is sitting against the chassis, your getting there, just need to notch the chassis a bit.....

Cheers.

Too low. Put it back to normal height! I like HQ-WB at maybe 1" max lower than original height, just my persoanl preference. Love the HQ Stato. My first car I used to drive to school in on my P's in 1984 was a HQ Deville.

Looks tuff mate. Are you using drop spindles? As long as you're not compromising the handling and nothing can scrub then I reckon that's spot on.

Have you done anything else on it lately?

Haha, no, thats just it sitting on the bump stops, just wanted to see what it looked like. Wont quite be so low but wanted to get the current 'mexican' stance out of it.

Haven't done bugger all with this but there is a list of things to do over the coming months.

I have a new job so busy with that, thankfully much better than student wages so should have some coin to throw onto it.

Also bought another A35 (and a YT head) the other day, coupled with the company car and the missis new one I now have 7 vehicles sitting on the property, need to start getting rid of a few.

Sam, have you seen any original "destined for and sold in NZ" HQ-HZ vans or utes lately? Looking for a photo of the GVW plate that got put on these cars where the ADR plate goes in Australia? And evidence if these cars got an Aussie engine number of if they are blank on the engine and blank on the chassis rails too.

What does that GVW plate look like? I have an old MOT one that looked like it was just a piece of paper but covered in hard resin or something, screwed to the back of the driver sun visor in a WB ute. It had a legal gross weight of around 2.5 tonne if I remember correctly (on a six cylinder ute, not tonner), bit more than Holden's 2155kg.

Could well be blank on the chassis rail as I've seen a few like that which appear totally factory, no number. I currently have an HZ ute which is rough but reasonably original, will have to take a closer look.

The ute looks just like any other NZ Holden - VIN and options plates only, no chassis number, normal engine number (QL which I think could even be original?)

We have the option of registering as a commercial or private use vehicle, I think that's been the case for at least that long so only the commercial use ones are likely to have the load/weight info I imagine.

Sorry for the thread hijack!

^ More info than I can offer. When you say no chassis number, is that nothing stamped on the chassis itself or on the plate? I know this this had a number on the chassis, but who knows if it had been replaced.

From what I can tell, HQ-HZ (except HQ with L30 engine) built in Australia for sale in NZ had VIN and BODY plates, chassis number and engine number. The commercials would have got a GVW plate placed where the Aussie ADR plate went. HQ with 350 engine may only have the McKinnon plant's stamp eg K0705H, but may have the Aussie Vehicle Assembly plant's engine number too. Some vehicles sold new in NZ were dealer transfers that were destined for sale in Australia, or at least built for plant stock so they'll have an ADR plate. All i'm doing is piecing together the facts!

Built in Aus, but NZ cars were assembled here during that era weren't they? (I'm guessing that's why no chassis number, too much hard work to stamp that at assembly...). I imagine the Statey is less common and more likely to be an Aussie car.

There is the little printed (not stamped) plate that says something like 'Overloading or overspeeding will void your warranty' which has the gross mass on it of 2155kg, mine's missing at present but I know I had it somewhere, pretty sure it goes on the passenger side near the option plate though not in place of the ADR plate. ADR plate still has the rivet blocking the original hole. I thought Aussie cars would have had this plate too?

Will find the missing bits and put together a description of what goes where if you like.

Some were assembled there, not all body styles though. Utes, coupes etc were assembled over here. Maybe only sedans in NZ. If they were assembled over here to be sent to NZ they didn't get an ADR plate.

2155kg is correct GVW 6cyl HJ-HZ ute or van with commercial tyres. Aussie cars didn't get such a plate, from the time ADR plates were fitted (1/70 on) commercials had the GVW on the ADR plate, prior to that (HK and early HT) they had a GVW plate on the front bonnet lock panel. Also on earlier but not sure where.

Hell, first time back on the site in ages and there are posts!

Cheers

Lee there hasn't been much in cruising in this thing over the year, been sitting in the garage. Life is been getting away with me since we had the wee boy in August. So I have decided that for the next period of my life I'm not really going to have much use for a finished statesman in the garage.... Plan is to get some coin together to finish off the interior (more or less, just re do the seats) then sell it off.... A 'dream car' project can then happily sit in the shed until such time I am ready for this. By 'dream car' I think a 2dr LJ torana (don't care too much which model - will be XU1 rep), so I think with the $$$ I can get for this that should be able to get me a half decent project to do properly.

I the mean time I also need to get rid of a few vehicles and tidy up the house, I recently bought this to help with that:

Our wee boy is called Max, and before long he is going to be into everything. Yes I have been a fan of landrovers for a while when this came up locally. I needed some sort of ute with a toeball for assorted jobs so I think its perfect. It runs a nissan 3.3L diesel which gives it plenty of grunt but is bloody loud in the cab and the diffs are too short for the running gear. Both of these issues I will sort over the next month.
