Mounting SAAS seats in an LC

I was recently asked to mount these seats into an LC.

I was instructed to use these runner kits,which were supplied by the owner.

I fabbed up some new brackets for the floor,starting with some 75x25x3 RHS,which I sliced down with a grinder,using the original seat runners as a rough guide.

They were made as low as possible,and they taper down at the back.

The modified RHS was then welded to some 3mm mild steel plate that I predrilled holes in.(sorry about the missing pictures here,I was busy building and forgot to take them)

As you can see,Ive fitted 8mm nutserts to attatch the rails to.

I had to make an a cross rail to attach the seats to the rail.

They needed a cutout to allow for the mounts that proud from the seat base.

The nutserts in the above shot allows the crossrails to be attached to the top of the runners.

The other hole is for a bolt to attach the crossrails to the seat.A small 5mm thick packer sits inside the RHS to act as a spacer against the bottom of the seat mounting pads to prevent the RHS from crushing when its all bolted together.

And this is the finished product.

Thats how I did it.

They fit spoton,and work perfectly.

I reckon they look alright,too.

Il post up some more pics when I get them attached back to the seats and in the car.

I should have taken more photos of the process,but if you are keen,you will work it out.

I can't see why this method won't work in other cars as well.

I would question the safety of using nutserts in a seat mount. What is the odds of them pulling out in an accident? I'm sure an engineer would have problems with it.

If you can pull a nutsert out of 3mm mild steel,then you are a better man than me.

I obviously cant pull it out by hand. But the forces involved during a head on accident for example, (In my opinion) would pull them out easily.
Not totally sure about it hence the question marks.

In an head-on or side-on accident situation there is only the weight of the seat acting on the mounting hardware, the weight of the occupant is acting on the seatbelt. The only situation where it might be a problem is in a rear-ender and then the weight of the occupant will test the mounting points.

BTW wot179, that's some real nice fab work there.

Sactly. Have the capacity at work to crop and fold 6mm plate easilly enough, would be strong as all hell and still lighter than any regular mount.....Just need to work out if i will have issues doing it that way or not.

I bolted the seats to the floor without runners. Used existing mounting points but moved to the left so right leg could be more in line with the brake pedal. And kept as low as possible.

I solid mounted my brackets directly to the floor but moved the seat across towards the centre of the car so as to directly in line with the steering wheel.

Have to offset the legs for the deals but it seemed the more logical thing to do.
