Silly question but hey...

Is the T5 manual that fits up to a V6 different than the V8? Stronger, weaker, different shaft?..

Its just that there's a heck of a lot for sale for the V6 ones, but not the V8 ones so wondering if I can save some money there, otherwise I'll change the shaft on my M20 (orig. 6cyl) to suit the injected 5L I'l going to run.

Cheers,
Jase

the v6 t5 has a difrent torque rating and the input shaft is too long to go into a v8 hey check out what we do at our web site here is the link http://freewebs.com/aussie4speeds/
we make m21 race boxes able to handle up to 200 kw using the xu1 ratio we also recondition shifters and linkages we have standard modified and the race aplications
all made to order give us a call a m21 is a far easier conversion than what a t5 to put in to a torana and my M21 race boxes are alot stronger than a t5 5 speed box .

Same basic box, different length input shaft as above (longer for V6 which makes life difficult), different ratios. Apparently the Ford T5s are easier to get hold of and both the input shaft length and shifter position are better suited to conversions for earlier cars.

Input shaft is longer needing to be shortened & I think 1st gear is heaps shorter, nearly useless for a decent v8.
A mate got ripped off on a reco t5 box years ago after a workshop swapped his v8 t5 for a v6 box.

First is 3.25:1, would still be fine for a cruiser with 3.08:1 or taller diff but not so useful for a quick car

you can shoten the v6 t5 length to a ford length and use it in a torana get a crs bellhousing and it will fit in nice a lttle bit of floor cutting and welding but no biggie i recondition those boxes as well as my 4 speeds

so my 2 vn v6 boxes arent a total waste .theyll go behind a 253 or 308?
and what about the ebxr8 t5 will it fit behind the 85/86 mustang 302 windsor?
also your 4 speeds you say 200kw but tell us some torque figures because thats whats going to break them.

V6 box will be fine behind a stocker v8 with tall gears, just don't see the point going with the v6 box when you can get more suitable one from a ford.

rob -Dellows should have the info in their catologue, maybe even on their website with measurements/info on how to identify which box is which & what they fit etc.

Not a waste at all. find a input shaft out of a ed or later ford box. All commy v6 t5s use a 3.25 first gear.

EA/EB boxes use 3.5 first gear, ED to EL use the same box as commodore just different input shaft lenght, easy swap over. to make sure you get the right input shaft take out your v6 one and count the teeth on the input shaft. been doing the reasearch because i broke the ford t5 behind my 355 and found it hard to get another ford one but there were plenty of v6 ones going cheap. did find a ford one in the end thou

early t5s are rated at 265 foot pound of torque up to 1992 later than that they rated 300 foot pound

Upgrade your T5 to 600 foot pound and 500 HP. leave the top loader in the dark ages.
input shaft and gears $1295 and main shaft $355.

send me a pm reminding me to ask my mate on sunday about this and upgrades as he rebuilds all his ford t5's
don't see how it won't bolt up as the windors where a crate motor imported from the states and fitted in aust so to my knowledge the only thing different would be the ratios
also for your imformation there are only about 7 different bell housing patterns in use around the world in car engine desgin
