Well yesterday a new project arrived that I'm really looking forward to. It's an HK GTS Monaro.

It's going to be a restoration, with no gastly body mods or any weird stuff. These cars have such an elegant shape in my opinion they don't need any changes.

It will be redone in Silver Mink with the GTS stripes, stock wheels and hub caps, but dropped nice and low with a healthy stroker chev, glide and 9". Lovely : )

At some stage someone has started the resto and done quite a lot of filler work, which actually felt really good and straight, but they left it in bare metal and it rusted, so it's all got to come off. I'll strip the primed areas back to metal too so I know exactly what I've got here.

I'll have to get a bigger shed just to make room for all the stuff that came with it : )

Australia never produced a car that looks any better than this. Probably shouldn't say that on a torana forum hahaha.

Well me being me I couldn't help but have a bit of a play with it, so I started stripping back the drivers side rear quarter.

Posted Image

Someone has had a fair go at fixing what was obviously a fairly decent hit, but in areas the filler was a little thick for my liking, so I'll try and hammer some more of it out.

I also found this lovely fibreglass filled rust hole where the rear part of the rain gutter goes. Nothing too drastic, but this was bogged over, which is exactly why I always go back to bare metal.

This area will take quite a lot of work to get right, but hey, it's an HK monaro so it's worth it : )

I just like this next pic.

Well there wont be progress until next year, as I want to get the camaro finished over the xmas break. But after that I'll strip this right back and see what we find.

God one.

Nice car Tim. I was worried that you were running out of work so this is a nice surprise.

Finally got your priorities right I see. Posting here is more important than sleep. ;)

Can't wait for this to unfold is the Monaro getting the full Dritbag treatment?

Hi guys. I like the stacking them on their side comment Paul : )

Barman, unfortunately for me this isn't mine.

I'll be doing pretty much everything on this car, body, paint, suspension, assembly etc. It'll be basically a stock resto, except for the ride height and driveline. No body mods at all. Just the way an HK monaro should be : )

I can't wait to get stuck into it.

Yet another one of Tims projects that i will be following with a great deal of interest. Im with you Tim, i personally rather Monaro's of any sort over torana's but of corse in saying that would rather a torana over any other car.

Good luck with it mate and remember to post lots of pics

Great stuff Dirtbag, will definitely be watching this thread. I'd sell my Toranas to own a HK munro, but they're not worth enough to buy one. :dontknow:

I'm pretty sure the owner is happy to stick with the glide. I'd have a manual, but that's just me. I'm still going to enjoy building this car.
Hey Brett, what did you want for those 10" convo pros?

Ok drop everything. Nothing else has a higher priority than the HK.

I'll even travel the 1500km to help you 'dispose' of the other projects that are cluttering you workshop.

I know. I know. I'm a really nice helpful guy. B)

The best shaped oz car my arse.

Without doubt the prettiest car The General produced anywhere in the world.

Im with datto on silver mink and red trim with a stickshift.

No better car was ever built by anybody, anywhere, anytime.

Anybody who disagrees is an ignorant knobend.

Here endeth the message.....................

I'm going against the grain here - I hate HK-G-T Monaros. I think they look like they are sloping backwards ie; the rear end is too low. And by the 'rear end' I mean the glass and body lines, not the ride height, because even if they are raised in the back or lowered in the front they still look like they are sloping backwards.

Give me any Corvette, a HQ coupe, 68-69 Camaro or even a VT type Monaro anyday.

Of course a flared LX hatch is still THE toughest and best looking car GM has ever made.
