I'm going against the grain here - I hate HK-G-T Monaros. I think they look like they are sloping backwards ie; the rear end is too low. And by the 'rear end' I mean the glass and body lines, not the ride height, because even if they are raised in the back or lowered in the front they still look like they are sloping backwards.

Give me any Corvette, a HQ coupe, 68-69 Camaro or even a VT type Monaro anyday.

Of course a flared LX hatch is still THE toughest and best looking car GM has ever made.

Posted Image lol and the Torana's dont slope backwards do they?
Thats what makes monaro's torana's ,camaro's and Mustangs such beutiful looking cars.

I'm talking about the belt line through the middle of the car - not the roof line - all cars slope backwards if you are talking about the roof line (except maybe the worlds ugliest car the Ssangyong Stavic).
Its a trait the HK-G-T Munro's share with the similarly awkward looking Chevelle SS of around the same vintage. And is the opposite of the gorgeous XA-B-C coupes.

The best shaped oz car my arse.

Without doubt the prettiest car The General produced anywhere in the world.

Im with datto on silver mink and red trim with a stickshift.

No better car was ever built by anybody, anywhere, anytime.

Anybody who disagrees is an ignorant knobend.

Here endeth the message.....................

um did you forget the 69 camaro convertable?
but in saying that
the ht-g-k series is my second favourote monaro
keep the pics coming tim

HQ doesnt appeal to me that much im afraid.

I would take one if given to me, i would buy one if it was ridiculously cheap...

so perhaps i should rephrase, the HK is the only Monaro i would pay market value for if i was in the market for something like that at this point in time (which currently im not) and the right one came up.

I would also buy one over a LH/LX SLR/whatever in the same price bracket and in comparable condition.

Considering i dont like the bigger Holdens all that much thats a fair statement.

Cheers.

ummmm.......convertibles are for hair dressers and ass bandits. I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just the truth : )

As for HQ over HK? No competition. HK all the way. I'm with Bomber here. I don't mind the HQ monaros, but they have absolutely NOTHING over an HK.

The end : )

I have no idea how you could hate HK-HG Monaros when you look at the sedan they evolved from.

As a previous owner of one of these dinosaurs, i can honestly say that they are much prettier to look at than to actually drive!

Following this thread with interest.

I've got a silver mink with Goya red trim HK GTS stashed away. Best bodied HK I have, but it is only a 186S manual, hence it has to wait in line behind the 2 x GTS 327's (red and yellow). One dy i'll either sell it or fix it.

Thread steal

LOL Yeah I used to blow up those opal gearboxes in my HK :) Blew mine 3 times before I got rid of the car (4 door with fact floor change)
Since then I have thought them to be the most useless of gearboxes going around.
Nice to hear of another with similar problems (I was hard on that car though)

Herne

Thread back on track now ;)

Yeah, in all honesty I'd be VERY happy with a 186 3 speed on the column HK monaro. My first ever car was an HK kingswood with a 161 3 speed. What a beast : )
