If you want to fit minitubs you need to move the rail from at least the spring platform rearward.

If you want to fit coil overs you need to fit a crossmember to mount them off.

Any combination of the two will require chassis work.

In my own car I moved the shock inboard and made new rails and tubs. I can fit a 275/60R15 drag radial with room to spare with a spring in the standard position.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at the Germans post about coil overs

They are still in development and untested... but you'll get the idea

If you fit mini tubs then you will also relocate the factory shocks. The "German" coilovers mount in the factory shock position so they are not suitable for mini tubs.

Once you have moved the shocks out of the wheel tub you need to make a new upper mount point. The typical method is the crossmember you can see in the picture above.

This is another method but this section would usually also be removed when you fit mini tubs.

That way looks simple and uses the stock spring location so strength wouldnt be a problem, Looks like you could trim the spring mount back about 40mm

Any chance of pictures showing how the shock is mounted into the spring tower?

What shocks and lb springs did you use?

basically i just had two discs laser cut, then welded the two mounting plates to each one, they then bolt through the old spring seat into the boot area, springs are king springs and are 150lb, and shocks are gaz,

Thanks for the info. That is how I was thinking would be simplest way to fit the shock mount.

Did you remove the bump stop/spring locater from the middle of the spring seat?
