It's the @#%*@$# stripes that attracted me, they look similar to SS stripes but on a 4 door. And they are what I would like to see but incolour.

Cheers

They must have got close to production in this form
I have aftermarket PBR catalogues that mention the XU2 as L34 in regard to parts

Eg
Front brake hoses different (different calipers to go with the vented discs)

By no means am I saying I'm right.... just like to say what I had read on the topic, back in the black and white days.... lol   .......   to my knowledge (which is only from the Magazine's I read at the time)  it was as said, "the V8 XU-1 Program was destroyed, but the cars weren't....   everything I read, said that the motors were pulled out of them, and the bodies were sent to SA, and were rebuilt for Bathurst cars....  the colors were also supposed to be Silver, Orange, and Pink ....   now this is only from memory of what I had read ....  so just say'n   :)

What is known, the Lone o Ranger LJ GTR V8 Prototype was returned to a 6 Cyl and Tendered out in Feb 1975 from GMH Port Melbourne, the Strike me Pink LJ GTR and White LJ GTR were used as Engineering Hacks out at Lang Lang, now we don't know if they we're Sold as in Tender Format or in house at GMH Port Melbourne and if they were in V8 format or 6 Cyl format, Some one knows the real story how the white and pink LJ GTR Prototypes were Sold, Ian Tate tells us the Pink Prototype was only rego as a 6 Cyl but ran with a Hotted up 308 V8 on the 6 Cyl rego, was the White car in the same mode, we know the Orange Car had V8 Rego

the Magazine's I read at the time)  it was as said, the V8 XU-1 Program was destroyed

Yep, it was due to the 'Supercar Scare', it wasn't only Holden that had to scrap high performance vehicles that were on the drawing boards at the time.

Years later when it came time to name the SL/R 5000 Holden didn't go with the XU-2 moniker in order to distance themselves as much as possible from the bitter controversy they had with the proposed V8 XU-1, they planned to fly under the radar with a new name.

Thankfully nobody raised an eyebrow.

by that time, production of them was stopped.

never knew there were LH xu2's as well

There was an XU4 option on the commercials as well. Can't remember what it was off the top of my head.

Also XW8 (350) and XV4 (can't remember that one either) on the GTS's. They're just option codes. Brisbane plant was the only one to stamp them on the tag.

They're just option codes.

It's the same with the XU-1; you bought a GTR with XU1 options.

I believe they added the hyphen on the decal to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

And L34 and A9X are the same.
With it likely that at least one of these 3 cars is still existing, an update to this thread would be good. Or at least a link to the latest news on the subject. How about it Al?

And L34 and A9X are the same.

Exactly; we tend to call one an L34 for short but it's an SL/R 5000 L34, hence the SL/R 5000 decals.

It could be why some people think all SL/R 5000's had flares when only the L34 and A9X options included a flare kit.

I like how you guy's have explained this,

all these years, I thought they were what they were.

Now these are just options.  B)

What about the XU1 that had XU1 only, stamped on the Tag,

is that still a GTR with Options?

What about the XU1 that had XU1 only, stamped on the Tag

That's how they came out.

The GTR and GTR XU-1 is identified by the body code 82911, the GTR option includes GTR badges. The badges were not part of the XU1 option so it's not 100% GTR with added bits. The anomaly with the GTR XU-1 is the XU1 option code from the tag also appears on the decals.

You won't find SL/R or SS stamped on a tag either

Dave it's when you ordered a XU1, on the order form from the GMH Dealership you ordered a 82911 GTR and there was a box u ticked for the Performance Package (XU1) And that's how it was done

I don't remember starting this Topic and don't remember looking at the replies either.

I didn't know about the XU-2's on the LH's and in my post I was only referring to the XU-2's on the LJ model. Or is it only referred to as XU1 V8 option?

Over the years since I started this thread, I also have heard they made only a few and then the Government took them away. Then I have heard only some were taken away by the government and some were also went missing days before the raid.
