Hi All,

Sorry , just resurecting this thread.
I was fixing my wiper motor and when I cleaned up the motor body it looked like there
was 2 stickers on this motor at some point.
The HR at the top, but idea what the other one at the rivet would have been?
See attached photo.

Thanks
Archie

just a quick question mate as i am very VERY basic when it comes to electrics, i have the exact same thing happen to mine, same area and even the exact same angle yours broke off at..lol, i'm deffo going to follow your directions, but one quick question,...when you have it all soldered back into place should it be touching the top "L" shaped contact? and when it's in operation should it be contacting be the bottom "short" contact when the gear turns and runs on the round lip on the plastic gear?

i hope i explained that properlly lol, cheers to whoever can tell me if this is correct :-)

Im overhauling my Lucas wiper motor, and on removal of the large spur gear I found a contact sitting in the bottom of the motor case.... Its broken off the switch block assy. Would this switch block be common to anything else? Is it available? Does anyone have a switch block they want to sell?

Standard failure of a Lucas wiper, everyone of them i have seen is the same, i'd ditch it and replace it with a Preslite.
Actually i wouldn't even wait for it to fail, my Hatch was all Lucas when i bought it, got rid of the lot asap after buying it.
"No" i'm not a Lucas fan.

In the parked position or when the gear is out , the resoldered piece should be in contact with the upper terminal. .
When the gear is in and the for most of the rotation, the resoldered terminal, contacts the lower , grounding L-shaped terminal.

The problem with these lucas unit is the contact arms are too short and not flexible enough.
So even you solder the ternimal on it has even less flexibility, which means you have to have the contacts closer together to make it work.

I gave up on the original terminals and installed a microswitch instead.
However if you find a Preslite unit, go for it.

Brad, had you noticed that yours never had the date stamped into the plastic cover? The picture of the other one you put up has 6-74, and I was shown another one with a date the other day, but my car doesn't have it.

Q. Do you know why the English drink their beer warm ?

A. Because Lucas built their fridges.
