Hi thanks for that, Rodney.

No, I have a standard LC SL feul tank, but I have GTR gauges, so I ordered the XU1 feul sender.

Cheers

Glenn, the XU1 tank sender unit will not fit your S, SL & GTR 10gal tank.

Not should work...... will work, if your sender unit is in a serviceable condition.

Had a bit of trouble with my xu1 style tank sender.

Nothing major, but the locking ring was too big, and the electrical connector is a spade connector whereas the original one is a pin.

Here's my original one.

Attached File  image.jpg   95.2K   1 downloads

The replacement doesn't have the little supporting bracket either which is a worry because there is potential for it to get broken off,

Not a big deal but not really happy that I have to hack up my original wiring.

Don't get me wrong, I'm so grateful to Rares for the products they make available, but those couple of things are the difference between being useable and being perfect.

It's not like these parts are cheap either.

On a related matter, was it possible to option an xu1 tank on a GTR?

And now the fr0cking electrical connector has snapped off so I've wasted my time and $110 and no one can do anything about it for 6 weeks.

This is what I mean about the difference between being useable and perfect.

Maybe the gap is actually a bit further than I thought previously.

Not happy Jan.

Don't throw the old one away, if you have one of those old-timer radiator guys close by I reckon he'd be able to clean it up and repair it for you?

Some of the things I've seen those guys fix with solder is amazing, you just gotta find one of the old craftsman types, all the new guys know how to do is crimp-on plastic tanks.

Craig, your XU1 sender unit is an LJ model. The LC sender unit has a male spade electrical connector.

If the solder is cracked where the pipe comes through the mounting plate this can be repaired as Andrew (Bigfella327) has already said.

I'll just let Rares know what happened and have no fuel gauge till I can get a replacement.

Assuming they are nice about it, which they seem to be usually.

So what happened, the electrical spade connector on the Rares tank unit snapped off?

Bummer, but at least you released the tension.

My youngest asked me recently why I sometimes swear at inanimate objects. I replied it's that or instead of swearing at the seized bolt that just skinned my knuckle when the spanner slipped off, I can come and swear at my family when I get pissed off with something. What would you prefer?

Don't swear at all was her smart arse reply.

The impossible I can do today but miracles take a little longer :)

People used to say the same to me, to which I replied "I've got a licence to swear, I had to do a four year apprenticeship to get it, but now I'm fully qualified"

I used to work with a bloke who regularly did his nut when things got the better of him and throwing spanners was his specialty, he quite often skimmed them across the concrete and bounced 'em off the fence at the back of the yard, funniest thing I ever saw was him rolling out from under a car on a creeper and chucking a full-on wobbly, stomping his feet and pounding the floor and swearing like there was no tomorrow!

Another bloke who worked next door, a panel beater he was, had a psychotic aversion to red noses on cars and used to run up and smash them off whenever he saw one... never a dull moment at that place... I would have hated to be the service manager explaining to customers why their red nose was now missing.

Dunno what that had to do with fuel senders though? Keep at it Craig... almost there!

Yeah, nearly there.

I work on client sites every day so don't get much of an opportunity to vent.

Sometimes at times like this it all comes out lol.

hmmm... that's a pretty miserable excuse for a rivet holding the spade on... hope they get it sorted

Yeah I think part of the problem is that the spade doesn't seem to bend at all, so any time it gets knocked or bumped the force goes through the rivet/join whatever it is.

Edan has been in touch and is sending me a new part which is very much appreciated.

It is great to see that some companies still value great customer service.

I didn't even have to contact Rares, Edan contacted me after my whinge and was more than helpful.

The new sender rocked up on Thursday so I'm not sure where the initial message of 4 weeks before it gets to Melbourne came from.

I've just fitted it and it was much easier this time.

The securing ring was a much better fit, it is smaller than the other one.

I'm not sure if this is because the first one I got was for a different tank or because the design has been updated.

Either way, the new ring was perfect.

Thanks again for the replacement Edan.

It saved me a lot of hassle.
