Al,

I've got an article in Torana Power magazine No. 5 about James Mattiskes Red XU-2. This article says that James had to sell the car in 1989. It was purchased by Brad Spiteri who ended up selling it (due to harassment by the cops) to some lucky fella for 10k.

Apparently it was originally an LC GTR converted to LJ.

Its VIC rego number was LTU-220, black & white plate.

ok Pete

went through all the Magazine that I have, the ones that are Torana based magazines, full of Torana's but no luck, I did find a Red V8 LJ XU-1 with NSW number plates, so I didn't think it would be your car, the owner Girlfriend has a Red LJ XU-1 as well, so there are two Red LJ XU-1's together and there was a Red LJ XU-1 with Supercharger with NSW number plates.

Al, what date is on those magazines. Mine had the same exhaust as in the first pic when it came over from Vic in 1983.

Hi All,

Just bumping up this request for info on my car, as I am still searching for that vital breakthrough.

In a nutshell, I am looking for anyone who can remember a rough, shabby, rust behind the rear wheels, red LJ XU-1 with a 253 & Aussie 4 speed in Victoria, most likely Melbourne, in the early 1980s that was sold into SA in 1983.

or

A new stock standard red LJ XU-1 in Canberra in 1972/1973 that would have been purchased new in 11/72.

Any newer members on here, if you could read back through this thread & see if anything rings any bells, that would be much appreciated.

Cheers Pete.

In Canberra in the Early 1970's

Tony Sari who owned Manuka Motors Auctions in Canberra told me that Ron Hodgson Motors (Holden Dealership) sent a few V8 LJ's to his Auction House to sell as NSW would not rego them but Canberra RTA would.

Alby said that his yard and one other yard joined forces and the other yard with there Bathurst Connections (The owner of the other Car Yard Raced at Bathurst for years) organised some LJ XU1 308 V8's and 6Cyl LJ GTR's and 6Cyl LJ XU1's from a Holden Dealership too be sent to Alby's Car Yard for them to sell them in Canberra.
NSW would not rego V8 LJ's and Canberra RTA would in that time frame.

Bill Graham's LJ XU1 was Sold from Alby's Car Yard it was one of the LJ's that came from one of the Holden Dealership that was organised.

I believe Bill's XU1 came from Griffith or Leeton area when New, interesting in a few other V8 LJ's came from a Holden Dealership in that area and went to Victoria to get V8 Rego that could be done in Vic.

So I'm getting a bit confused with all the V8's/XU2's and prototype cars.

Which one is this thread about?

Is this a car that Pete currently owns or is this a car that Pete used to own but got sold to Bill who recently sold it or is it about a totally different car?

Just wondering if it is worth having a v8/XU2 register and/or verification thread.

Basically to put together a summary of which car is which, what special features it has etc, maybe details of who owned it when and stuff like that too.

Maybe go as far as distinguishing features, which dealer did the V8 install etc etc.

Seems a waste to just chuck all this info in threads that waffle on for years and then get half deleted or locked when someone says the wrong thing.

And XU2308, Al, are you referring to yourself in the 3rd person or is there another Alby?

And is Alby Mangels your real name?

Pete
Wanted some info about Canberra Car yards with V8 LJ's and i could of Pvt it but i put it in here instead.

Alby owned a Car Dealership in Canberra in the 1970's, i am not him.

No need to do a V8 LJ Registar

There is a GMH V8 LJ Dealers thread in here

if you were keeping up with Current Events Craig them threads were closed for the right reasons, I dont want to Waffle on in a new thread :)

If you google Alby Mangels you will see many adventures :)

And is Potta your real name? :stirpot:
