Are 255/40/17's ok to go on a 17x8" rim?

As mentioned above, they bulge slightly on the rims and are not the optimum fit but certainly legal and do-able if that is a word.

I have 245"s on my front 17 x 9.5"s and does not look out of place. Had 275 on for a little time but were a touch too wide.

I'm Debating swapping my 255/40 17 (17x10) federals onto a 17x8 hsv tri spoke,
tire offset calculator say ride height should be close to 235/45 17
inner wheel clearance could be a problem though (VL front)
