,Hi everyone, need a bit of expert advise here,I recently had the rust cut from my doors on my HJ Holden which was good but i wanted to make sure it was,nt going to come back so i liberally sprayed the inside of my doors around the seems with ranex i think its phosphuric acid ,anyhow i did not neutralise this or wash the doors out because it was winter i figured they would never dry out .I ended up then spraying the inside of the doors with a mixture of fish oil and lanoline .My question is ,would this have neutralised the acid ?or should a clean the doors out to stop the possible activation ?,i was thinking washing out with diesel.I am i bit worried about this after forking out to have the rust done .Help much appreciated.Paul.

What about if i flood with crc ? that should neutralise the acid and clean everything out?

Ever tried washing Fertan or exit rust off or any water based product off with paint thinners/solvents it doesn't work. My point water based product you will find you will have to use water to wash it off or neutralise it. But I suppose it can't hurt to try CRC at least your doors won't squeak.

you have to remove the "fish oil etc" before you can neturalize the acid
as you have created a barrier
fyi cavity wax is way better than fish oil anyway hint hint :)

According to the instructions Ranex does not need to be neturalised.

Ranex Instructions

RUST CONVERSION
•Remove oil, grease, paint and loose scale
Apply Ranex & allow to dry completely in order to penetrate deep rust & to leave surface in a suitable condition for
painting with an oil based primer.
As Ranex chemically destroys rust it is not necessary to use rust inhibiting paints. Zinc
rich paints are not recommended.
•Apply Ranex to the rust effected areas only, wipe off any excess on surrounding metal or paintwork with a damp cloth.
-Note Ranex Rustbuster will convert the rust however it will not prevent it from re-occuring. Treated surfaces left
uncoated may experience further rusting.

I ended up using petrol to remove the fish oil and neutralise the acid seemed to work fine it left the inside of the doors dry and clean as the petrol evaporated ,have to make sure it does not come in contact with rubber seals though thanks for the advise guys .

Hey I know this is a super old thread. But I've just used Ranex on my fuel tank yesterday. Attempted to paint over it today, but the pain is just turning to goo, clumping up and peeling off...have I missed something? the site says theres no need to neutralise it? it's definitely dry, but I can't seem to paint over it

I wouldn’t paint straight over it. Rather buzz it off with wire brush at least. They say you can paint oil based enamel over it.

Just tried it on my Ute tray. I kind of like it as is but plan is to buzz with wire brush, scrub with floor prep, deoxidine and wax and grease then Epotec 2k etch.0e67606d3a389392545415f9540c31e3.jpg0bf78c66cf1213fefd327729ff7b4a41.jpg
