Um, yeah, they are the impression of screw heads......so they were screwed in differently.I checked my H252 heads today ,one 11 H ,and one 12 H , and noticed the H looked a very little different , but the screw slots , at the H252 and
and the back set were cast at a different angle.
You will notice if you get a bunch of heads from the same mould that each one will be marginally different from the others.
The youngest head from that mould will have more meat in it...........
The moulds and dies wore out over time, one of the reasons (apart from volume through-put) that you run multiple sets.

^^^^^ , from info I have read in years gone by, the patterns (moulds) for sand casting parts are often made of timber so the action of compacting the sand around the pattern would be quite abrasive and quickly wear away at the timber and/or any protective coating that might have been applied.

Most 27F3 heads had larger valves that would come in handy for a Sunday drive in October.
To the left of the '2' there appears to be a 'K' - Kenny who worked at the foundry

A 27F3 9H cylinder head with standard LJ XU1 inlet valves.

thats interesting, wonder if Kenny did mine
small valve in that cast number, wonder what mike has to say about that.

Very, very interesting Kockum, X2.I have never seen a K looking letter like that before, surely it wouldn't be the grain of the head that just came out like that. who knows.A 27F3 9H cylinder head with standard LJ XU1 inlet valves.

The other interesting comnet is about the inlet value on the 27F3 head,,,,,,,makes alot of sense them heads with the bigger values were only made for a particular motor and was argued on another thread that was a long long thread and has die down(thankfully), I don't want to mentioned that thread,(150)
Just go to show that them date coded heads were different depending on what motor they were made for.

I dangled a juicy scrub worm commenting on the 20F3 and 27F3 heads but did not get a bite - gone quiet just like the golden perch .

if I get time tomorrow I will strip the paint off the 'K' area to have a good look .
20F3 heads -
If any exist with inlet valves like mine they would be far and few between .
All these that I have seen were fitted to the 'chosen cars ' or had been removed from one .
The less said about a certain thread the better - the vast majority of people are totally fed up to the back teeth with it .

What appeared to be a 'K' is just how the casting came out - the more paint you apply to that area the more pronounced the 'K' becomes .
Bugger .

yeah cheers david,
it was a very special day to remember,
the xu-1 is a very responsive beast, not much gas and the neck flies back, pritty impresive considering the age of these machines.
